May Car and Driver mention the new '03 will have a H. O. option w/ 305 HP. Anyone know if this is true? If it is, what are they doing different? Are they "beefing" up the internals too or just adding different injectors and letting the computer add more fuel? Thanks guys! Jeff

I read the same thing. I believe the engines are being redesigned to include Exhaust Gas Recirculation as well as a Common Rail fuel delivery system on the highest output rated engines. I also believe they are keeping on the 235 and 245 hp versions for a while.

The newer design was in response to tighter emissions regs coming up. Check out this article, particularly page 2.

305 hp

I've heard the same thing. the most noticable thing they are doing is going with a common rail injectoin I beleive that is how they are getting the extra power. there could be other things as well

All 03 and up will be common rail (dame as the chevys). The EGR comes in at 2004. 5 due to emmisions requirements. When that happens, there will no longer be an HO. All trucks will be at 305hp. The 47RE will be around till 2003. 5 then the 48RE popes in, it will be aviable as an HO with the 48. The NV4500 and 5600 will stay around. I forgot what the base hp was, I think it was around 250hp.

Dig around in the 3rd gen fourm for more.
