I've got a 1978, 310A we use around the place that needs new steering knuckles. The originals have worn to the point that the vertical spindles will slip in the knuckles and allow the wheel to go past center on one side. Had to put a couple inches of weld on the other day to finish a project. Not good.

The local dealer wants a little over $250 each, I'm thinking there's gotta be a cheaper option. So anyone have a lead on a good salvage yard or discount suppliers.

Thanks, Ronnie

I've got the same front end on 4 tractors (backhoe, 401 , and forklift. ) . It is a common problem on them all. The chance of finding used parts is almost nill. I've tried for years. I drilled down through the arm ( where the slplines are) on mine and drove a cut off bolt in as a key to hold mine in place.

have you considered taking them to a machine shop and having the arm and spindle keyed? I think that is what I will do next time if my pin fix ever wears out. On our big ag tractors ( they were JD also) when they wore out I bought new parts but noticed that the washer on top bottomed out on the top of the spindle so I put a shim washer larger dia. than the spindle on top of the arm and then put the big washer, lock and bolt on so I know I had the arm pulled down as tight as it would go. Also washed parts real good, removed paint, washed down with ether and used lock tight bearing mount on them . never came loose again. still costs lots of bucks though. Did 3 tractors at the same time.
