OK I just got under my truck and had someone turn the wheel both ways to their extremes and hold it. I do not see How I can fit another 4" of tire under there and not have rub. Would someone please post some pictures. Any one have suggestions on a leveling kit.

I have had 315's on for almost a year. The first six months without a leveling kit. I put the leveling kit on for looks, I had no problems with rubbing without it. The only time I have anything odd is when I am going through a fairly sizable dip, and have the wheels cranked to one side or another, then I get I small rub for about a half a second. Haven't been able to see where it rubs.

Additionally,

You are not trying to clear another 4" of tire. The total diameter of the tire may increase by 4", but this results in only a 2" increase on each side, thus you only need room for an additional 2" for clearance.

uhh... no. . My truck rubbed with no leveling kit. Dont forget about the arms...

Look here is my truck

xcx,

You rubbed because you have the steel wheels which have a different offset than the Aluminum wheels. With the Aluminum wheels, you can run 315's without a leveling kit.

OK Pgoble I just measured and i only have a 1 3/4" for clearance with factory tires. I know i must divide the difference by 2. But there seems to be a major conflict as already seen here. One group says no rub one says a lot of rub. My next questiion should be factory rims are after market.

I am running the factory Aluminum rims. FYI, 315/70R17's are 34. 36" tall. 265/70R17's are 31. 61" tall. The total diameter difference is 2. 75". That equates to 1. 377" additional clearance needed, not 2".

let me re-say myself... Mine didnt run without the 2" leveling kit unless i turn fast into a incline... then i heard it rub. So i got the 2" leveling kit so i wouldnt have to worry. . I honestly think with the set-up i have now with aftermarket rims i could fit 37's on it. Mine wheels are steel. I am going to get the new teflon coated black 17" american racing wheels come spring :)

My '04 2500 4x4 with factory aluminum wheels rubbed with 315's and no lift/levelling kit. I swapped them for 285's and they work great with no rubbing.

I put this in a nother post... and I have yet to be under the front axle enough to know... but there should be a steering stop bolt on each knuckle on the front end. If so then all you have to do is pull the bolt and stick a couple flat washers on it and bolt it back on. If you are already rubbing on the control arm then you have already lost a small amount of turn radius... adding the washers (however many you need) will keep the tires off the control arms and you will only lose a negligible amount or turn radius.

no rubbing at all

I have the 315's and the chrome clad steal rims. I even have the extra weight of a ranchhand on the front and I have yet to rub what-so-ever. I have been deer/elk hunting where I have gone down some really nasty roads that flexed the suspension quite a bit and never rubbed. The tires have been on my truck for over 10,000 miles now.

When I was thinking about buying the tires I too did not think that the tires would fit without rubbing. But I decided that i would give it a try after seeing a 1500 4x4 being able to do it without too much of a rubbing problem. I figured that my 2500 sat up quite alot taller then him and he showed to have little rubbing so I thought I would give it a try.

Also, there are so many members on the TDR that have not had issues with rubbing.

I have a pcture of the truck with the tires in my reader rig, not very good for showing the clearance of the tires. the picture is without the ranchhand also. I will try to update it in a little bit.

No rubbing here with 315's and aluminum rims. I did run for a few months with no leveling kit and it was fine. Now I have the adjustable Kelderman air ride front setup, and it's still great.

THANKS TO ALL!!! I see there is still conflict. But I gather the back spacing is different between aluminum and chrome. Personally i do not see having aluminum on an oof -road truck So i got the chrome. I have about 20,000 mile left on michelins. After that i will level and decide between the BFG's or the GY MT/R's in 305/70/17. I do not pull anything heavy just a 4-wheeler and every once in a while i will have 2,000 lbs. in the bed.

I don't know if the back spacing is different, but the wheel widths are different - 7. 5" vs 8" if my memory serves me. If that extra . 5" is on the outboard side of the wheel, that could make all the difference though.
