I have a '99 and ran the 315's for a few weeks. The tires did rub when turning. I installed a 2. 5" leveling kit and haven't had any problems since. I did have a little rub once after installing the leveling kit when I hit a large bump too fast (much faster than I wanted to).

I've got an 01. 5 LB QC 4x4 with the Camper package (sway bar and helper springs in the rear). No lift, but did put on a 2" leveling kit for the front.

I've got BFG 315 75 16 TA's. Had to remove the moulded mud flaps otherwise no problems. I will get minor inner fender rub if I hit a bump at 10-15mph with the wheels turned (like turning into a parking lot) but not enough to cause any permanent scratches to the fender liner.

FWIW, mine rub the control arms just before full lock. I have the tires mounted on the stock aluminum rims and the truck has a 2. 5" leveling kit installed. It's really only a problem in tight spaces.

I went through a couple of sets of the 315's with minor rubbing at full lock, bumps, etc. The problem that I did see, though, was that it would prematurely wear the center of the tire due to the factory rims not being the appropriate width (depth?)... pulls the beads in and causes the center of the tire to balloon up a little. FWIW

I can see how the rub on the control arms comes into play, and the center wear as mentioned by Chris. I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I installed 1 inch wider rims that also give about an additional 2 inches of backset, which relieves the ballooning and pushes the tire away from the control arms.

The tire shop didn't recommend the 315/75R 16s on the factory 7 inch wheels.

My son has the same truck in a shortbed along with the same wheels as I have (when installing the wheels, the shop scratched mine, replaced them, and my son bought the blems for 40% of new price). He is planning to put on 35x10. 5 16 swampers. These are about 1/2 inch larger in diameter to the BFG 315/75R16's but are also a little narrower. So they should work, but we will see.

Also, you won't be able to get load range E in the 315's - so if you haul heavy beware!

I have 33x12. 5, just a tade bigger in actual size than 305". Stock suspension and on AR 16x10 wheels. They rub the mud flap a bit at full lock. So I expect just what others are saying. . the 315 will rub at lock, lift will take care of it.

The min wheel width you should have with the 315's is really 10".

The 7" are just too narrow. Some tires guys will mount them, others won't.

CWebster is completely correct. That's what a couple of pretty knowledgable tire guys told me what would happen. That's the ill effect of the rim being too narrow, and I would guess cause excessive heating as well, since your riding on a crown on the tire.

Most 10" wide tires have a min rim width requirement of 7. 5"

Most The 12"s wide tires I think call out 8" width min.

For 12" tires, I've always used 10" width in the past with great results, looks good, bead and rim are slightly in for protection too.

------

EDIT:5/3/05: forgot, my AR's on my dodge are 8". I did this to minimize the rubbing and the amount of tire sticking out from the fender. I only rub a little bit at full lock and up travel on the mud flap that stick out further than the inner plastic fender well.

------

I wanted Load Range E since I tow, after months of looking and searching, and not well advertised, but the PJ's are about the only large ( very aggresive) AT tire that is load range E that I could find.
