315/70R17 Tire Pressure?

After going back and forth about whether to put 285s or 315s on my truck, I went with the 315/70R17s.

The installer was real friendly. I asked if he would measure one of my stock steel rims when he dismounted the Michelins. He put his rim measuring gauge on it - it measured 8. 5 inches.

Who do you believe?? Most commonly folks say they are 17x8. The door sticker on my truck specs 17x7. 5. I am siding with the actual measurement of 17x8. 5. At least that helps explain why the tires look just fine on the stock rims.

BTW, the tire guys were real careful to check front clearances before mounting the rest of the tires. My truck is stock and the tires clear cleanly - but not by much and there is no rubbing on either full left or right turns.

he probably measured outside to outside. It should be measured the inside to inside of the wheel where the tire mount to the wheel (rim).

Raminspeed, That is what he did. He had a large caliper and it is designed to measure outside to outside. The way the caliper is curved there is no way it could measure inside to inside.

You wouldn't think something as simple sounding as wheel size measurement could be so complicated, but it has turned out that way for me.

Anyhow, the tires fit the wheels OK and none of them has more than 4oz of balance weights. I think that is not too bad for tires that big.
