I am thinking about running a gm np205 behind my ctd but have some questions first. The only reason I am thinking about going this route is I cant seem to find a dodge np205 anywhere. I need the 29 spline one.

I read about a guy on here who was running a nv4500 with the 32 spline output with a Gm np205 and had problems stripping the splines off. I did some research and the 32 spline GM shaft is only a 1/16 or 1/8 smaller than the dodge 29 spline shaft. I am trying to figure out if he just had bad luck or is the 32 spline shaft really that weak. I know this is not the place to ask, but doesn't Gm still use the 32 spline shaft, even behind the dudududuramax? Sorry to mention that word on this forum, my fingers didn't even want to type it. ;) Some of those motors are putting out some decent power. I will be running this tcase behind a nv4500. So tell me is the 32 spline a bad idea?

I am running, (with my fingers crossed), a 32 spline NP208 and GM tailhousing / shaft combo. The 208 was originally attached to a 400 turbo. I am also using 5 quarts of lube in the trans. The Military wanted shift on the fly so GM installed the 208 instead of the 205 even though the trucks are rated at 1. 25 tons. The transfer was a direct bolt-on and the splines mesh deeply.

I am still keeping an eye out for a 29 spline NP205 in case mine fails.

That the setup I have adapted for my swap also. I used the advanced adapters setup for the conversion on mine as I used an older model 205 that did not have the round adapter ( it's the figure "8" looking one I had to install a Gm mainshaft into my 4500 If you decide to not use the TC you can sell if for good money as GM only put that set up in a very limited number of trucks ( I think for only a few years ) and there is not a good setup for trubo 400/ l480e and that hd tc. As for the shafts striping I can't tell you as mine is not on the road yet... Sure hope it's strong enough... You could allways change the gear in the transfer case and the gear housing mount to the dodge parts. I had to swap out the main shaft either way on mine as the trany I had was 2wd
