I just picked up my 04. 5 3500 QC Dually (6 spd, 3. 73, Laramie) and think I hear a slight rattle around 1800 rpm coming from the motor. I'm not sure if its just my imagination or not - it sounds king of like a pinging in a gasoline motor. I never heard this with my 01, but then all you heard was motor rattle!

What are the symptoms (if any) of injectors that needed replacement?

I also have the rubber door seal problem - where it has actually started to tear a little after 800 miles.

I dig this rig!

Yeah scooby it seems that most of us have this "pinging" noise from what i have read. I noticed it the day i pulled off the lot 900 miles ago. Also the door gasket thing. There are a couple of threads on both these topics.

I think the pinging is normal, also there is a tsb on the door seal. My dealer replaced mine, the new ones are a little thinner, still drags but not as bad.

I could hear the pinging on my 04. 5 for the first week or so after I got it. Now I don't hear it anymore. It never occured to me that it might be the fuel additive (Power Service) that made it go away. I didn't start using the fuel additive till around my 4th tank of fuel.

If the 2nd gen 24 valve engines ever made this sound, no one would have ever heard it because of all the noise from the injection pump and piston clatter.

my truck has about 2400 on the clock and has "pinged" ever since i got it. Have tried hauling 2000lbs of wood around for 500 miles to help break in. Had it reflashed. Used Amsoil since truck was put in service until last 3 tank fulls. Appears as though it is part of the package!
