I find myself needing new tires and have been looking for an aggressive all terrain or a good(not swamper aggressive type) mud tire for 17" rim--must be "E" or better. Anyone have suggestions? I am not interested in a different rim size as many will recommend 19. 5s. I know tires are out there but have not had good success finding them. I prefer responses from folks who have experience with the tires they are recommending or warning away from.

Thanks in advance!

Andy

I personally will be trying a set of Pro Comp's Xtreme AT in 305/65-17 Load Range E when my current BFG's wear out. If they ever will, I've got about 50k on them right now and they look to have another 50k left in 'em. Of course I don't tow that much and most of my miles are hwy. A buddy has the Pro Comps and seems to be pleased w/them so far. I wanted the 305 size in an "E" and they are the only one's I've found (at least ones that aren't on nat'l backorder for 10 years). Fitment on stock rim might be iffy, I've got H2 rims right now for the 285's. May help, may not.

Just finished doing research on tires for mine. Here's what I came up with in terms of tires that fit the OEM rim, I was looking for tires either 33" or 35", all terrain or mud terrain, so there may be other stock size tires on the market that are not on my list. I was looking for E rated, but a couple on the list may be D. I went with the Nitto Terra Grapplers, hope this helps:

I would go with the BFG. I am waiting for my BFG 33s to wear out so I can go to a 35" tire. Do they ever wearout? Has anyone actually wore any out? I've upgraded/changed sizes at least three times before the tires were half gone.

On the other hand, I can go through a set of Intercos in 15k miles easy. And that was on a light Jeep Wrangler. Will not have the Intercos on the road again. Off-road there is none better.

I've been buying BFGs for 25 years now. From street racers to 4x4s. I've never found anything to complain about other than when I went to 4x4s I'm usually ready to change size (due to change in gears, torque) well before they have any wear showing. The ATs are really good.

DISCLAIMER: IMHO

I've got the Truxus STS in 35".

Look good.

Not too loud.

Wear terrible.

Near impossible to balance, already had 2 replaced under warrenty.

Only 1500 mi. and approx 10% to 20% tread loss.

Everone reading this post should email BFG and complain about them not making an E rated 35" A/T. Maybe they'll cave in.

Thanks for ya'lls info.

I have concluded my research and will be purchasing the Toyo OCMT 35X12. 5R17 125Q E/10. I will gladly be making 10 to 15K mile reports on wear, noise, and ride. Again many thanks for all the help.

Just put some on my ride this week,315/75/16 Toyo M/T's,not much to report cause i just drove it home from the tire place after mounting,a bit of a hum above 50 MPH( fastest so far due to rush hour). They sure are beefy looking and fill the wells pretty good.

i have about 6 thou on a set of goodyear mTr's, size 37x12. 5x17. ran them offroad pretty good and drive about 42 miles to work aday and they seem to be holding up tread wise. hope i see 25-30 thou out of them

35X12. 5X17 Toyo M/T's have my vote. I can not give you a mileage report as I only have about 1,500 miles on them. But I love them so far.

Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip 17x35x12. 50 Look great on my 03 2500..... Four Wheel Parts check there web Site 3640# weight load rating . Have 33x12. 50 on my 06 Mega with leveling kit and 16x35 on my 02 with 4" Tuff country I tow with this truck, around 10k Trailer and load no Issues. . Around 17K all togeather Aloha Ron

I personally have owned BFG MT's, Trxus MT's, and Dick Cepek Fun Country II's. They are all what I would consider to be aggressive yet with good road manors. I would stay away from anything that has large lugs and high voids, like the Boggers and the Baja Claws and Super Swampers. They have there place, just not on the road. The BFG's have the hardest rubber, and will get the most mileage. The Trxus had the best ride, and probably the lowest mileage of the bunch. The Dick Cepek has the best looks and cost the most, I have no data on mileage yet, but I do Like the way they look. Good luck.

I've got the Hankook Dynapro RT03's in 315s, so they are D rated, but their 35s are E rated! I've got 7,000 miles on them and they look new! I'm going to rotate them at my oil change, but they are wearing great!

Good luck,

Nick

You guys running the 35"s... is that with or without a lift? Also, anyone out there running the 295/70R17 Toyo MT? I believe they come out to 33 inches tall and almost 12" wide. I am currently running 33X12X17 Mickey Thompsons and don't want to go smaller... but I am not ready for a lift kit yet. Any thoughts?

Make sure you check out the Pro Comp Xtreme AT's. I have 10,000 miles on mine and I love them. Great tread pattern, and not too noisy.

I am running my 35's with a 2" lift in the front. I used the Skyjacker D25 Springs and love them. I considered the 295 Toyo M/T's but wanted a little bigger tire. I don't think you could go wrong with either tire. The load capacity on those 295's is like 3970# at 80 PSI.

Mines lifted(see sig)also have the DT Profab 1/2 inch longer control arms on too,no rubbing but i had to loose the front mud flaps due to the tires would just touch when turned. ------This is due to the factory moulded running boards i have on there and they extend out into the well about 1 inch. I know my info is for a second genner but hope it can help someone. Later DW :D

I am running the Dick cepec fun countr II's and i like them alot got about 15000 on them now and besides the heavy foot and the mods they are wearing really good. i was also wondering ive got a 2 leveling kit on my 99 and 16x10 wheels and wondering if i can run 35's the current tires are 305/70r16 and there d range thanks guys

I am running Nitto Terra Grapplers (mine are 305/55/20) and they are E rated. They make a bunch of sizes and have never had a problem.

They do wear quick though. I get about 50,000km out of a set of 4. I run them just in the summer so I am on my 2nd set.
