<font color=blue>Getting really anxious to try these Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip tires. However I don't have the funds for the lift, new wheels, and big tires right at this moment, but would like to try the tires out.

So I wanna take the 33/12. 50R16's they have and put them on the stock wheels. I see where people put 15" wide tires on 10" wheels, so thats why I am asking this question... ... is it safe to put a 12. 50" tire on an 8" wide wheel????

Those of you that have 33" tires on your stock trucks, do they rub at all?????? Just excited about these tires is all I love the way they look.

Will it work??

Once I wear out the 33's then I will lift it and put on 36/14. 50R16 or maybe even 38's, we'll see #ad

Thanks for those of you that have emailed me on these tires. And also thanks to those of you that replied to my previous posts on these tires.

Kat,

I don't know about the rubbing on your truck, but yes you can put a 12. 50 on an 8" wheel. It is really not optimal rim width IMO, but it will be just fine. The only thing you have to be careful of is not to run to much air pressure in the tires. Being on a smaller wheel the tires may have more of a tendancy to wear out the center if overinflated.

Kat, I had 33,12. 50s on when I was stock height, they didn't rub. Mine were on a 10" rim though. Good luck.

How big of a tire would fit between your stacks? Once I get my stacks I am thinking I'll move my spare tire to in between them if it will fit. Would you mind measuring between yours please? I know you have your propane tank there, but since I am not ready for propane figure the spare would look good there... maybe?

I just figured out 33's are bout the same height as 295/75r16's but the 295's are only 11. 5"wide. So I think in the next month or so I'll order a ser of these tires and try them, guess thats the only "True" way to see if they work hehehe. By the way Eric I saw in the latest Four Wheeler that Dick Cepek tires are back on the market now.

Thanks for the replies so far. <font size=-2>

I think the looks of a 33x12. 5 on a 8" rim look perfect. They look like balloons when they are on 10's. My brother had them on 10" but looked stupid so he bought 8's. I have 12. 5's on my blazer with rally 8's and went four-wheeling all of the time, I never had a problem and they wore great.

Actually the 285/75/16 are closer to 33x11. 5 not 12. 5

On Goodyear's website the section width of the 33x12. 5 is 12. 5 and the section width of the 285/75 is 11. 3.

Goodyear and BFG recommended rim with for a 33x12. 5 is 8. 5-11. This should make you feel better about the 8" only being . 5" off.

The 12. 5 tire on an 8" rim is a good idea if you ever rack crawl much. It gives you alot of rim protection. More likely to slide a rock on your sidewall rather than drag it accross your nice wheels. I had a 33x12. 50 on 8 inch rims on my toyota. Good luck

I'm running 315-75-16s on 8" american eagle wheels. I do have a 2 1/2" leveling kit on the front. I ordered the wheels with 5" backspace to stay in the fender. Plenty of clearance with 305-70-16s that way

Kat:

I have the "B. F. Goodrich Radial All-
Terrain Tires (285/75R/16) with stock
suspension and have no problems with
the tires rubbing.

Kat, the 285/75/16's that a lot of us are running are 33/12. 5/16 in english. They will not rub on my truck, even with some pretty nasty off road adventures. Cooker is right on the money with air pressure. You need to watch it closely because the 8" wheels are a little narrow. You can start wearing out the centers or get a lot of heat in the tire without the right pressure. Also you NEED D-rated tires. In this size they will carry MORE weight than E-rated stockers, C-rated will not support the front end properly without over airing them. Keep us up to date on how the new tires perform.

Kat. . I have Swampers 33x12. 50x15 on 8" wheeels on my CJ7 [I know your question is about fit in the Ram. . ] but they work very well on 8" rims. . as stated they protect the rim very well

<font color=blue>Thank you for your replies so far. I have decided I will try them out and see how they fare.

So just pulling back to the top and asking the question again (just for more feedback)... .....

Is a 12. 50" wide tire safe on an 8" wide wheel???

Kat, I ran the 33x12. 5x16. 5MT's on my 16. 5x9. 75's for about 3mo. before I put the leveling coils in. Never rubbed. I encourage anyone who runs oversized tires to round off the bottom rear corner of their front fenders to prevent tire damage. Then if they do rub, it will be on the plastic bulge of the inner fender.

Kat,
Use this chart as a guide. Match up your tires to some on this chart, and see the approved rim width. I think you will be allright with a 8" wide wheel.

Wowzy,

I presently run a LT305/85R16 (36" tall, 10. 5" wide) with just a front "leveling kit". There is a mile of clearence between the tire and any sheetmetal, with the wheel turned to any position. The only thing that is close to rubbing would be inner plastic fender liner at 3/4 turn. Its probably because the tire is not real wide. More tall & narrow.
