Turning up power on PT pump on 855

Hey guys one of my Semi's (L 9000 Ford with a 3406B motor. ) Smokes alot, At cruisin speed, with or with out a load. the motor recently had an inframe overhaul at Michigan Cat in Kalkaska MI. I asked them to bump the horsepower, The man I talked to said he could not but they would play with the timing... And I think that is exactly what they did play with it. I would like the motor not to smoke when I am going down the road. It seems to draw attention from the D. O. T. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated as I have to start driving the truck again daily about 400 miles hauling 130,000 pounds of crushed cars. Thanks Ron.

The first thing is what did they play with? If they adjusted the timing advance unit did they use the cat timing tool. How far did they adjust it? What color of smoke do you see. White smoke is too far retarded. Black is too far advanced. Are you still running a stock fuel setting? Has the injectors been tested or replaced and what part # did they put in if they replaced them. Is the turbo in good health and when was it looked at? Have you checked or replaced the air filter? You could also have a blown blast hose or a intake gasket or fitting is leaking. If I knew all of this information I could help you decide whats wrong. Official Cat dealers never fudge too far from spec. Thanks, Brady
