I just bought an '03 and I got the dealer to work the tires in to the deal. How do the 35 12. 5R17 BFGoodrich M/T km's compare to the 315 70R17's? I am under the impression that the 315's fit with minimal rubbing on a stock truck, will the 35's fit without too much problem?

jvanwaardhuizen,

The two tires you're referring to are basically the same tire. One is a metric measurement, and the other is the US measurement. If you're going to go with a 35" tire, from my experience, you really should consider going with at least the 2" leveling spacer for the front coil, or a pair of the Skyjacker 2" lift replacement coils.

I hope I understood your question correctly.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck. -Ken

I was under that impression too, but I wasn't positive on that. I plan on putting Kelderman's air ride on it to level it out, just trying to save up for it.

I have a 2" leveling kit, 33x12. 5x17's and they look small under there. I was think about going back and get the 35's but I don't want the big balloon look.

Does anyone have pictures to show us with 2" leveling and 35's

thank you.

You don't have to put on the spacers or coils. I had 315/70/17s (which equates to 35/12. 50/17) on my 03 for 6 months before I put on my 2" leveling kit. It only rubbed one time, and I was entering a pretty extreme angle, and you could barely here it. I had to back up and do it again to make sure I knew where the sound was coming from.

Hope this helps-

John;)

The BFG 315's are 34. 5 inches tall and the 35 inch BFG muds are 34. 8 inches tall. not much different but possibly enough to rub? Check my gallery for photos of 315's.

I have the 35x12. 5x17 BFG Muds on my 03 and I really like them. I installed the leveling kit before I got the tires so I can't really answer your question. It will also depend on what wheels you are running. Backspacing will make a difference. On stock wheels you will probably be ok. I have 17x8 with 5" backspacing (stock wheels are closer to 6-6. 25 backspacing) and my tires just barely rub on my mud flaps at full turn. Less backspacing = more chance of rubbing. Check my member photos or my web page for some pics.

thanks all

This was the info that I was looking for. I was worried about the 35's being alot bigger than the 315's. I've seen a few '03's with 315's and they looked like they fit fine. My wheels are still stock (and going to stay that way for at least a year).

I just went through this. After reading everyone's statements that 315's fit fine, I put a set on 17x9" Mickey Thompson Classic II's with 5" backspacing. They rubbed hard when turning. I then mounted the 315's on the stock aluminum rims. They still rubbed when turning, but not as hard, as the over 6" backspacing on the stock wheels pulled the tires in a bit. I didn't want a 2" spacer up front, as I like the way the truck sits now and, when I tow something, the truck doesn't squat in the rear. Anyway, I switched to 285 BFG's on the stock alloy wheels. These fit great, but admittedly don't fill the wheelwells as well as the 315's did.

My truck came with the 315 bgf km's when i bought it and no rubbong at all and no leveling kit. You don't even need it. When I have the car trailer and jeep on the truck sits level. It would squat in the back if I had the leveling kit.
