i just put 305/70/17 goodyear mt/r's on my truck with stock alloy wheels... ... they fit well... . have not had any rubbing yet with 1000 miles on them..... i have been offroad a bit with them... ... i have much less wheelspin with these tires offroad than the others but they didn't balance well and are pretty loud on the road..... i use my truck offroad for work tho and was tired of getting stuck with the stock sized bfg rugged trails..... hoping not to have that problem anymore
I did just that for 2 weeks before I did the suspension... no rubbing, no problem.
I remember a thread where a guy commented on having clearances when he first put 315's on, and after a year he said it started to rub a little... likely due to the front coils settling in.
Personally, I'd recommend doing something to level the truck if I was putting on 315's, but they fit fine on the stock rims with no rubbing.
I just put on 315's today and really like the ride I have now--runs down the interstate at a better rpm range, I do have a slight rub on a full hard turn but nothing I can't live with.
My 315's rub slightly on the liner in front of the front wheel, on the inside. I bought the truck with the wheels/tires and the wheels are not stock. Notice my truck is an 03, so maybe the coils have settled. The wheels are made by Pacer. They look nice, though they stick out way past the wheel wells (why am I rubbing on the inside of the liner?). After reading other posts I bought stock aluminum wheels with the intent of putting the tires on these rims to see if they still rub. Now I'm wondering if this will solve my problem.
Also I noticed the BFG's tend to pick up rocks easily and I am getting a paint chipping problem. I've ordered splash guards from Geno's to see if I can solve this problem. Something you might want to consider.
Oh, one more thing. I think if you put a pencil to paper I think you will see that you will be running a much higher gear ratio, and you already have 3. 73's. My truck came with 245 tires (not 265) and switching to the 315's was the equivalent to switching to a 3. 4x axle. I also figure my speedo is 12% off (yours won't be that much if yours came with 265 tires).
I run around 1950 rpm at 75. I'm OK with that, but will you be? You can have your speedo recalibrated for around $50. 00 at the dealer, I hear.
I forgot to include in my sig. that i have a 4. 10 rear. I'll try to post some pictures tommorrow. I thought about the switch for awhile and the deciding factor was price and the fact that while 4. 10 pull great the suck going down the highway. My biggest concern now is how the will react to my 8000 lb bat and trailer. ( I paid $143 per tire ). Also the stock dodge mudflaps do not do these tires justice---so I need new ones. Start looking tommorrow.
I bit the bullet and ordered Toyo 35's today from Discount Tires, but of course these are 18". I received the 18" Welds from Kent the other day, too. Big spending this month, but they looked so good on Kent's truck and no rubbing at all.
Now I just need to start looking for some highway only 17" tires for my daily commute. Mine got chewed up pretty good in Baja. Maybe I'll just look for a set of take offs on eBay.
