My '96 3500 has timing set to 16*, a #5 fuel plate full forward, and DDP2 injectors. It's pulling 355HP and 970 ft/lb. You can take a look at the dyno runs done before and after the DDP2 injectors: Dyno chart before and after DDP2 injectors.
After this, it took some work with the AFC to get the smoke under control and still keep the power right up there.
I've gotten almost 25 MPG at a steady 65 MPH, when I had the fan blade off this summer.
EGT's depend on how I'm driving. At the 65 MPH cruise aiming for mileage, EGTs will stay around 600 or maybe a little less. On the other hand, with my foot in it the EGT goes way too high for steady pulls - If I were pulling a real heavy trailer on long grades, eg: using all that power, the EGTs would go way too high. But I don't pull a trailer like that. I use the power for acceleration on the highway and don't have my foot on the floor for more than 15 or 20 seconds.
As an example of loaded use, last September I ran east on I-70 from about Richfield Utah to North Platte NE - about 800 miles between fill ups, I had the Lance camper onboard, total loaded truck weight probably 11,800 lbs. Running 60 MPH through the Rocky's I pulled 16. 8 MPG while holding 60 MPH. Even on long pulls up the mountains, I was seeing 1100F EGTs.
And yeah, this truck also has an Aerotank 60 gallon tank
From what I remember to get over 300 hp 4" exhaust, injectors and a different turbo (to ensure low egts and that your headgasket lasts) will be necessary. Some other things that might be helpful for egt reduction are a aftermarket exhaust manifold.
You can get over 300 hp with a torque plate, 4" turbo back exhaust, injectors, np. turn the pump up you'll be seeing more, and an cold air intake will help, i put the AFE stage 2 in mine and saw cooler egt's and more boost, worth the money.
