I just drove a 2004. 5 3500 4x4 SWR quad cab lwb 6 speed and need to know the weight ready to tow a 5er. That is with normal junk and hitch installed. SNOKING

That is the exact configuration of my truck, and it weighs 7340 full fuel, no driver or passenger, and before the hitch and other accessories was installed. Hitch is about 180#. With the 5er hooked up, the truck is at 9520# including driver and 1 passenger.

Well, I guess I need to wait for Dodge to match Ford's new GVWRings then. My current truck with me in it weighs 7,000 and I have 2200 to 2300 pin weight on 5er. So with a new one with SRW I will be right back in the same problem. We snowmobile in the winter, so I am not ready for a dually. Thanks Snowking

Mine weighed in at 7400 with full tank, bed cover, and steps.

SnowKing, having a 2300# pin weight would be at the upper limit for a SRW.

Does an '05 F-350 SRW have a GVWR of over 10,000 lb?

So on your current truck you're at 7,000 + 2200- 2300 = 9,300 on a GVWR of 8,800 means your 400 - 500 lbs over before passengers, etc. ?

On a new 3500 SRW (using Ken's weights) you'd be at 7,340 plus 180 (hitch) + 2200-2300 = 9,820 on a 9,900 GVWR meaning you're 80 - 180 lbs under before driver, passengers, etc?

Does this sound right?

Dave

DPelletier, correct. Changing to the new truck just barely solves the weight issue and does not allow for any future weight additions. I hear the new 350 Ford SRW is at 11,200. I will wait for a year for Dodge to play catchup. I really did like the truck and the 6 speed transmission. Lots of gears. I had not driven a stick for 3. 5 years, and got it working ok without to much of a problem. Maybe Dodge will wise up and get a MB big auto to put behind the Cummins. Something with grade braking like the Chevy/Ally. SNOKING

Stepson is checking on his price for a Banks Exhaust brake and Smart controller. His is the nice kid that give me the Magnaflow SS exhaust for Christmas last year. He is in the wholesale muffler/brake business, and recently added Banks products to his line up. SNOKING

That would be a big leap for a SRW. I was just checking the charts, a 2004 SRW 3500 has a GAWR front + rear is 11,350 lbs. The tires are rated at 3195 x 4 = 12,780, so I suppose it could be done.

Well, still working on DW regarding getting a new Dodge. Also trying to decide if I want to just go the whole distance and get a dually. We snowmobile and that is why I wanted the SRW. It appears that making the weight on GVWRing is tuff on a 3500 SRW 4x4 Diesel Quad, if ones 5th wheel is of any size beyond small.

So lay it on me!!! If I go for the dually, I might as well get the 4:10's to get the 23k gcwr as well.

God I hate this! 2001. 5 only has 29,500 miles. Anyone want to low mile std cab??? SNOKING

Here in Connecticut, a truck with a GVW over 10,000 required Commercial plates and is restricted from some of our hwys. I'm right on the border of NY state and the rules are the same there with respect to commercial vehicles being banned from some hwys. For me, 10,000 GVW would be a reason NOT to buy.

LOL, I had a similar truck as you; 2001. 5 auto. Sold it with 36,000 mi on it and bought the dually 555 6 spd. We took the dually up to the ski hill every weekend last winter and with good tires and 4x4 it was fine. Of course the SRW does have an advantage in deep snow or off road, but for the most part I was pleasantly surprised. No regrets here, but then I'm definitely a "buy the biggest truck you can find" kinda guy!

Cheers,

Dave
