A salesman told me that I shouldn't put air bags on the new HO 3500 because the computer automatically changes the front and rear brake proportioning from 70% front and 30% rear to 50-50% as the truck load increases. Does anyone know anything about this?????? The owner's manual doesn't say anything about this. ( :-{} :-{} :-{}

Thanks

Electronic Variable Brake Proportioning (EVBP) is determined by a computer algorithm in the Anti Lock Brake Controller. Ride height should not have anything to do with it. I am sure some of the techs can provide a more definitive response.

I agree. The sensors only sense wheel slippage, not ride height as in some of the older Chevy's.

I do have some concerns about bags on these though. If you look at our rear shackles you'l notice the spring load is spread over a very wide area. The bags would concentrate this load in a narrow space. I saw a ferd (frame is similar to ours) with a crack where bags were mounted. Our new hydro formed frames may dictate a whole new mounting method.

By the way, I had bags on my 93 and they were the greatest!

Some of the people of sales shouldn't be. I think some of them are working for The Bureau of Disinformation. Some of the things they come out with defy even my imagination:confused: .

That is because they think the customer is as stupid as they are. An informed consumer is their worst nightmare. However that said, there are some good ones out there but the bad ones sure seem to stand out.

My 2001 has a rear ride-height sensor on the driver's side. It's a lever mechanism mounted to the frame with a link going to the rear axle. Part of the ABS system I believe. When I removed my spring spacers & lowered the rear 1" I didn't bother to shorten the rod by 1" and when I hit the brakes hard it will tend to lock up the rears when unloaded.

Evidently they don't use this setup on the 2003s? Sounds like the salesman kinda knew what he was talking about, at least with the older models.

Vaughan- DC actually makes a shorter rod just for trucks which have been lowered, or (and the reason why they made it) run slide-in campers so they sit down all the time. Know you're selling your '01. but that might be a tip for the next owner.

Agreed... I remember back in 96' when I bought my rig, took it for a test drive with the salesman... I went to start the truck and I asked him if I need to turn the key to on position to let the glow plugs warm up for a few seconds... . he said no, these new trucks don't have glow plugs, just go ahead and start her up, just like a gas truck!... . LOL

salesman was right...

the cummins didn't have glow plugs, it still doesnt. it has an intake air heater grid.
