Are the 3500 and 2500 rear axles the same width?? I am losing my duals and fenders and wonder if I need to change more than just the bed ( if I had another bed) Thank you, Marc

I'm just about sure that they are different widths by 3 inches or so.

I have looked into going to a single wheel myself and found out i needed an axle, rear driveshaft work and a new bed.

Just cut the lug nuts down and run single wheels in the back. Works fine, tires barely stick out more than usual, I ran this setup for awhile but had to ditch it as I ruined an axle stub. . Not related to running singles of course.

A friend of mine did the same swap. His stick out just the same.

Now Ive herd that a cab/chassie model dually came with a shorter rear about 3in is there any truth to this ???

Cab and chassis have the same WSM as the singles. You can run singles on a CabChassis but the rear drums are very visible from inside the wheel due to the fact that they rum the same backing plates and drum as the dually.

Bobcat,

What did you do on the front, just take the spacer off the hub? Did you mean cut the studs on the rear?

That is cool, I could run singles with just a new bed.

Jason

I cut the studs on the rear. My truck began life as a SRW so there were no spacers in the front... I'm not sure what is involved to make the front end align right.

I'm pretty sure the front end is identical to a 2500 just has a big adapter on the hub. That comes off and you can set it up just like a 2500.

So, if I cut the studs down it should fit good.

Thanks.

Thank you for all the replies... Yes the front end is the same as 2500. I think I am going to keep it as is for now and look into changing the brake backing plates, etc... and have custom wheels made for the rear end so they don't hang out. . Thanks again, Marc

I am assuming WSM is wheel surface mount?? If so CC and SRW do not have the same distance from wheel surface to wheel surface. I measured and also my centers from my SRW 80 would not work on the CC80 that I put back there. The CC and the SRW do use the same axle shafts.

What are the WSM measurements from SRW vs CC? As far a firemanmarc's question for putting single wheels on a dually rear and having them fit under a SRW bed, it won't work due to the WSM on the dually being too wide.

Bobcat did just that, he had a dually rearend and put it on a non dually truck. The CC WSM is like 2. 5-3" narrower or so, so only like 1. 5" per side. Same with the dually your tires are only sticking out about 1. 5" further or so.

Garrett told me it was out of a dually. Looking at the pictures that is not a CC acle. The cab and chassis axles the brake backing plate is almost against the spring perch. I had to get new centers when I went to the CC axle. The drum is shaped different than the SRW.
