I was leaving work the other morning and I had to go by the Credit Union so my wife could cash a check. Left there and I went up the road to get on the interstate. I was going south on I-65. Got on the ramp and was doing about 60mph or so. I was having to merge and this _______ was speeding up next to me and I was running out of road. So I floored it and the truck stated speeding up and than It down shifted. It felt the trans down shift and it seemed like it stuttered and shift to 2nd (not sure). But the engine raced up to at least 3500 rpm  . I got off the gas and it seemed like it just set there. Than I shifted the trans in neutral and the rpms dropped back down to about 1500. I put it back into drive and went down the interstate at no more than 2000rpm and babied her back home.

Everything seems ok. Can anybody tell me what happened. It scared the ______ ______ ( you can fill in the blank) out of me. Not mention my wife.

Sorry the post is so long.

It's designed with the ability to run against the rev limiter (3200) indefinitely. An extra 300 rpm won't hurt it, especially for a few seconds. I've hit 3500 once or twice and the motor just defuels. No big deal.

i've had mine up to 3500 on the throttle, and to about 3800 downshifting... don't worry about it... now if you were holding the throttle under load there for a long time [several hundred hours] then it would shorten your engine life...

I hit 4000 rpm in low range getting out of a stuck, only for a second but it scared me as well. That cummins didnt seem to mind a bit.

I have drove it about 200 miles since that happened. It is running like nothing happened. I got the truck back in jan. Drove my wifes RX300 for a couple days and

I thinks I had withdrawes. This is my first diesel and I am loving it. If I can figure out the reader's rigs gallery, I will put some pics. of it in there. Can not get it to tell anything about my truck in the post eather. Thinks for the help. Glad to know it is not hurt.

I thought I remember someone saying that you have to exceed 4300 RPM before valves will start floating and things start flying apart. 3500 is well within the tolerable range if just for a very short time.

Who was merging?

Who had the right of way?

I can't stand people who think they have the right-of-way coming up on a merge.

I've been in both seats.

I typically try to be going at least as fast or faster than the flow (not speed limit) of traffic when I hit the 4 lane.

But there is always those few

A couple weeks ago, I was in the right lane doing the speed limit with a load of horses, getting ready to hit my exit, when this lady comes up an entrance ramp yapping her lips on the phone and gave me the what-for because I didn't get over ... ..... she damn near hit the grass over it, and I'd have lost no sleep over it if she had.

A little off topic, but those who sit in the left lane doing the speed limit or less trying to slow down traffic when the right lane is open get what they deserve ... ... ... ..... PM me for details on this one, LOL :-laf
