Has anyone ever heard of taking a 3500 dually and converting it to a single rear wheel truck. I suppose the rear axle would have to be swapped to a wider version. But what about the front. What would one need to do to get 3/4 ton hubs on there. Just curious.

Neil.

you would probably have to hang new spindles on it.

and yes the rear housing would have to be changed.

what's wrong, tired of buying tires six at a time? :D

Well, 6 tires is too many for me to actually use. I really dont have the use for a dually weight wise. But I have passed up a few good deals on some because I dont want the extra width. I get enough of the dual wheel stuff at the fire department. Seems like its always the inside one that has the problem.

Besides, the Mrs. would have it either up on the curb constantly or scrape the narrow entrances to the bank and the post office drop off. I guarantee it.

I was just a wondering if anyone had ever done it since they are so similar in construction and if it was an easy switch. Guess with the money to do it for however, I might as well add that to what I would pay for a good deal and go get the 2500 of my choice.

If your truck is 4-wheel drive, there is a spacer between the front wheel and the hub proper. Remove this and the spacing is correct for wheels from a 2500. For the rear, do some measuring and have custom wheels made that track where you want them to. Try Stockton Wheel out of somewhere in California. My preference would be a wider tire in the rear. But I prefer the duals on my 3500.

He didnt buy the truck,yet-. I found the same thing when looking for a CTD used, there are 3500's everywhere,a 2500 4x4,quad ,especially swb was real hard to find. also the 2500's are more $$ than the 3500's here. I almost bought a 3500,and converted it, too, becuase the price was so much cheaper. As for 2500 fenders, you can buy clean, new or used take off beds here for between 800-1100 bucks, may get lucky and find the right color too. Most upfitters /body companys will give you 3-500 for your dually bed,it aint much but its enough to get the 2500 bed painted to match the cab. Ifi did it,id get 19. 5's,since you have to buy wheels/tires anyway,so you could keep the 10. 500 or 11000 GVWR.
