3500 srw axle vs 3500 drw axle (Length)

I know the overall rear axle length on the DRW is longer, but why? Is the axle housing and axles, longer? Or does the DRW use the SRW axle with different hubs etc?

The axle tubes are the same, there is a spacer and longer axle shafts. (The inner wheel bearing is also larger on the DRW. . but AAM rates them both at 10,921lbs)

Yes. . unless you want to swap back and forth ever... like in winter.

As you can see in my post, my truck is a 2500. I'm kicking the ideal around of converting to duals. I know it dosen't increase load capacity. I just want the stabilty and saftey of four tires.



I've only got 133k on my rig now and I don't want another third gen. If I can gather parts for less than 6k, I'll try to convert.



In the mean time, I'll be putting away cash for down payment and wait for the bugs to be worked out of the 2010's.

The Dually axels are longer, bigger hubs, and bigger brakes. There has been several conversions over the years. When the axels are on the ground next to one another you can clearly see the difference I mentioned. Although most have been DRW to SRW, in which case it is very noticable.
