What do you recomend for pressure in the rear tires of a dually that is running around empty. It has the good Michelin tires.

This is a 2wd, my goal is long tire life. When I say Empty, I mean only the 5th wheel hitch rails are in the bed! My truck is all the way full with campers or 5th wheel load, or all the way empty.

My 98 2500 came with Badyear RT's. The book said to run something like 60 lbs empty, within 10K miles I could see the centers wearing out, so I started reducing pressure until I found that 30psi worked great for wear.

I called Dodge on this problem, they said "when we say an empty truck, it still has some tools on it, its just not loaded to the GVWR"

How can they dream this stuff up?

Front- 50# empty, 55# towing

Rear- 30# empty, 35# when 5th wheel is lightly loaded,,40# when wife has all her stuff in it.

Look at the footprint the tire makes on the ground.

Better yet, weigh it and adjust accordingly. A weight/prewssure chart should have come with the truck.

I run 80 front and 40 back with the tires I have now in my 2001. I just watch the wear and ajust to keep the center from wearing too fast. In my 97 I run 80 all around becouse my tires are to big and any less will let the backs rub together.

50/40

50 psi in the fronts and 40psi in the rear and 40 psi is too much.

Here's the story.

Fronts are wearing very even across tread pattern at 50 psi.

Rears at 40 psi are almost bald in the center from over inflation.

All tires are stock Goodyear's with about 30,000 on them.

Guys, I never thought much of them 'fern' tires, but these darn Michilens do wear good--my truck has near 45K and they look great--don't check pressure as much as I should, but about 50 in front and 45 in rears..... old Fat A$$ rides like a buckboard, but tires are holding up great... ... .
