what do you pull with your 2500?

Anyone here ever pull a stacker with a dually. I'm looking around for a trailer to haul 2 car's and like the option of not having to deal with a 50' long trailer.

I'm looking at a 34' stacker bumper pull, would gross around 15k with two 2900 lb car's in it. I'll rarely have two car's in it but would like to have the option.

I want to keep my Dodge but might get a 5500 GMC if the Dodge won't safely get the job done.

Real world experiences would be appreciated.

Just make sure you can get a hitch that is rated high enough for one !!

Like Throttlejockey said. We live in and regularly pull a fiver that weighs 17,500 lbs. We are on the road with it about evey 3 months when we change assignments. It is a triple axle, triple slide. No problems... No regrets.

I think it would be ok, but I would see if they make a fifth wheel version of the same trailer. 15,000 is alot of weight at the rear bumper.

my 32 foot GN weishgs in at 18k and i have a SRW... for now. i will be going 19. 5's and dualls soon though. i dont advise pulling that much on a SRW like i do, but i dont do it offten and its SLOW when i do. i would look into a goose or a 5er vice a bumper pull. much safer. also make sure you have a GOOD brake controller and even an exhaust brake. all axles on the trailer should be braking as well.

i see you have an 04. 5 like min with a 6 speed, only its a long bed dually. the truck should be able to do it just fine. just need some safety precautions to help out.

I should have been more specific. I know the truck will pull the weight,I've grossed 34,000 lb on the scales at the landfill with a bumper pull 15 yr trash trailer loaded with shingles. Weight police it was a local run(15 miles) from the jobsite.

I was more concerned about the truck's ability to get down the road without swaying or other white knuckle dramatics with a bumper pull trailer that 12' tall.

I've experienced the tail wagging the dog at 60mph with a bumper pull and a SRW Chebby and it was, uhhhhh exhilirating to say the least.

I currently have a 44' gooseneck that tows like dream. I can't haul two car's and a golf cart in it so I'm looking at other options. Might get a 50' gooseneck and call it a day.

I would not really want to do it with a bumper pull. I think you would be better off upgrading the trailer to a GN/5th than upgrading the truck and keeping the trailer. JMHO.

I STORNGLY advise a g/n or 5ver. My 24x8. 5 enclosed that is 12" taller than standard sways a sometimes scary amount, wouldnt pull a 34' stacker tag. I was pulling our 20' tag dump trailer(15K) to the scrap yard once and had to swerve to avoid some moron drifting in the middle of the road, ended up jack knifed in the ditch. Once a tag looses it w/that weight, even a 5500 would have it's rear end handed to it. It's always after the fact when you say "I should of... "

I'm going to skip the stacker. I don't think it would be safe to pull one of them with anything smaller than a single axle semi.

I'll just get a longer GN and keep the Cummins. After having the GN for 2 yrs I'll never buy another bumper pull, unless it's under 10k. Don't know what I was thinking.

Thanks for the responses. Dave
