Where can I get one of these bad boys??? I checked the Snapon website and they want nearly $50. Any ideas???

I am doing the KDP tab this weekend...

Thanks

Rick

I bought one from Napa, about $20. 1/2" drive so it will work well with a torque wrench. 36 is the size for most Jap cars axle nut.

Either way you might want to check Home Depot or Lowes. The brands they carry are not the best but for a one time use it would be fine. I bought a Huskey brand socket for my fuel filter top and it works fine.

It's an open end wrench that you will need to remove the fan. I didn't have an open end that large so I used a Cresent wrench, which is really too fat to fit between the fan clutch and the hub on the fan pulley. I removed a couple of the smaller bolts in the fan clutch to make the space a little wider so I could use the Cresent wrench.

I needed a 3 1/2" deep, 1" drove impact socket this morning to take a hydraulic clyinder apart (the "puck" that slides up and down the inside of the cyl. ) I wound up using the good old crude pipe wrench with pipe extension.

I just took a look at the problem nut during lunch. . and I have decided that a good Cresent with a couple of the bolts that hold the pulley on should be enough room. I don't have access to a torch to make the homemade tool. I ask about having one make of steel at the local shop and they want nearly $50. One way or another it will come off...

That dowel pin is going down or lets say staying in:D :D :D

A chisel and hammer will take it right off by using it to turn the nut. Remember it is left handed threads. If when reinstalling it, if you leave it about a full turn loose it will self tighten when you start the engine.

Larry, the fan better self tighten! I haven't used a wrench to tighten even one of the 30+ fans I've removed for a KDP fix.

Rick, I picked up a cheap 1-1/2" open end from Ace Hardware for $16, worked great on the 30+ above even though 1-7/16" is the correct size. Cheaper is better because the head is narrower and fits right in.

I heard Larry B makes cheap wrenches also.

NO SOCKET NEEDED

A 36mm (1 7/16") open end put on the fan nut and smacked with a 3# hammer LEFT HAND THREAD will do the trick. If you have a Harbor Frieght near you get a "cheapie". Smack it real sharply and you will get it off 3 hits max.

Larry, your wrench is still with the kit and folks say it works, I personally never got to chuckle at it;)

CPFF's new homemade wrench and pulley holder will be joining the kit with the next user. It puts Snap-On to shame, John is truely an A-1 machinist.

You want cob-job back?

I am going to try the Harbor Freight route to start and then if that dont work I will use the big Cresent if there is room...

Anybody want to come watch:D :D :D

NO! Will the first person who doesn't need cob-job please give him a decent burial. Deep!:eek: I loose sleep at night worrying someone might actually post a picture of it. :{

After looking over the jig closely I can certainly believe this. I will defend cob-job a small amount by saying it is probably a safe bet that CPFF has more that 10 min. total design and build time invested in his tool. Artistry takes time! I'm impressed. :)
