I have heard 40-60 hp in the 215 motors, and more in the 160/175/180 engines. they make a real difference, thats for sure. FATCAT is right, they will "roll the smoke" if you want it.
I've heard 40 also in the past but proved 56hp gain on a 215 pump truck. A set was installed in my shop Saturday but no dyno figures. It gained 8 psi of boost and 300 degrees of EGT but it's not smoky, pulls real good, That was a auto 180 pump truck.
Yes they are controllable. A lot will depend on your right foot. I just switched to 370's from 300's a week ago. They are more fun, but the pyro gets buried really fast. The fun window is pretty small.
Don't forget to give your truck some air!!! Install a AFE Progaurd 7 unit in the truck for more air. Also in August I had a ATS 3 piece manifold installed (AND MAKE SURE YOU USE NEW GASKETS), These two things + a 4" exhuaust keep the EGT's to about 600 doing 70mph on the highway empty and only about 1000 pulling a loaded trailer up to 9K.
At least that is what I remember before my 5th gear decided to take a break from all the work it was doing. :-( I will be 2 weeks without my truck before I get it back with a Quad 4X4 NEW NV4500 with the Torque King mainshaft and special 5th gear nut and huge piolit bearing. Man ... it has only been a week so far and it feel like a year has gone by. I can't wait for next Tuesday.
I added 191's and 370's and netted 93hp. I didn't get to dyno between the installs so I don't know what just the 370's would have netted. Either way it is enough to keep the grinning going and the smoke flying.
