I am in the middle of putting in 370s in place of my 215s. i have heard to use the thinner washer so the injecter will sit further into the cylinder. My question is, the 215s have a thinner washer on them now than what came with the 370s, do I use them, or is it bad to reuse those washers?

Thanks

Jason

This applies to "pure copper" washers only. They can be annealed, heated to a cherry red and then dropped in water, and then reused.

As to the use of thinner or thicker, I would use what the 370's came with.

JSharp use the thinnest washers you can get, ie the paper thin ones. The ones that came with the injectors most likely were intended for use on an engine the injectors were actually designed for (marine application).

Ahopper 215s are a great replacement for smaller injectors. 215s are a common upgrade, but I wouldn't buy used ones unless they have less than 150,000 on them. Otherwise it would be better to buy new ones IMO.

ACrafts,

I read somewhere else on here that the 370s have a spray pattern of 155 degrees and stock injectors are 145 degrees, or something like that. Basicly what I understand is the thinner washer will put the wider spray pattern of the 370s more into the piston where it belongs and less on the cylinder walls where it doesn't belong. I think Mr. Fulmer had some pictures of a motor that was pretty chewed up from the spray pattern hitting the cylinder wall.

Again, that is just from what I understand.

This is a stock motor with 370's using . 020 washers as everyone should and at 17. 5 degrees timing. I don't know if I would call it chewed up but you can see that the spray pattern is at the edge of the bowl. This truck saw some EGT's as it was at 446 hp using a stock turbo and a 18. 5 housing, 496 hp on Water/Meth, That was a few years ago!

Right now it has a fresh mill in it and running one of my HX-40's... ... modified not to over boost. It will eventually get a I. I. turbo.

Hey Jim, i think ya got the wrong pic! :-laf

As for washers, DON"T call Cummins. I just called Cummins West and they wanted 2. 49 each for 24v washers. I get all my stuff from Industrial Injection personally, and the prices were loads better than that. I just ordered 48 24v washers for doing used injector swaps.

Edit - looks like you found the right pic now!

i always called haisley to get washers they are only $. 50 each. the ones that came with the 370's were too thick and caused alot of sputtering.

Everyone recommends the . 020 washers because some years ago I reported dyno tests on different thicknesses and . 020 were best with the 215 pump and 370 injectors. Use new ones. If you are desperate, I have some extras. However, you should replace the horseshoe washers and the square cut rubber o rings too, so you might as well get the whole washer kit.

Thanks everyone for your input. I got a "so called" install kit with the injectors, but it had the same size washer in it that the 370s already had. I will make some calls today and locate . 020 washers.

Thanks again

Jason
