370's, gov kit, What to do first??

I don't think I can wait any longer. I have my 370's and gov spring kit now. I had to send my defective Autometer EGT gauge back so have none for a while. I still have not decided which plate to get because I don't want to put in a clutch before my annual Baja trip in Jan.
Question: should I go ahead and put the 370's an gov springs in now? How will it run? Is there any advantage to mileage? I have K&N and huge exhaust already.

Ohhhh, what to do!

<font color=blue>Which style of Autometer Gauge was it and what was wrong with it, if you don't mind me asking.

I would recommend waiting until you get your EGT gauge in before dumping in more fuel. You'll be very surprised at just how quick EGT's will climb. Just my opinion.
 
It is the 2-5/8. It would work only when connected to an external 12v battery. If there was any kind of voltage change the needle would go crazy. when you hit the starter or any draw the needle would go to full peg. when the engine started and the alt started charging the needle would drop to below zero and stay there. I thought maybe it was a bad connections or ground in my wireing so I ran wires directly to the battery, same. I then connected to another battery on the bench, worked fine.

RE: What to do.
I was thinking the same thing about waiting for the guage but then I thought that the 370's shouldn't increase fueling, just timing. The pump will be delivering the same amount(stock plate & position), just quicker, right? The gov kit should'nt make a dif in egt either should it?
Your thoughts?

The 370's do increase fueling,and the governor kit lets a lot of fueling occur at high RPM's where the Cummins isnt very efficient. Above 2500-egt's rise as engine becomes unable to move air thru the engine as fast as your adding fuel. I bet a stock 215 could get introuble if revved high enough. If your not towing and you have already hollowed out the CAT,i would put the injectors in,but might as well wait on the spring kit,and put them in at the same time as the plate,since they are right on top of one another.

Thanks for the info. I already have the gov springs and valve springs. Your right about installation, I was planning to do the 370's, valve springs, and gove springs in one swoop since I'll have everything off the top of the motor. Then I'll see how much more power I need and decide on a plate (read, save $$ for clutch). It will be quite easy to do the plate later.

I also am under the impression that 370's add fuel but now I'm wondering how. If the fuel pump is left the same, how is more fuel being pumped. It's a positive displacement pump so flow cannot increase without adjustment (I think)The 370's just deliver it in a shorter span of time, don't they? Mmmmmm? I'm sure your right, I just wanna know why.

Good point about the higher revs being less efficient for air delivery, hence higher EGT's

LarryB, the big injectors can increase fuel per stroke because the rules of hydrostatics don't apply at the high pressures seen in these P7100 systems. The fuel is elastic (compressible) as are the injection lines. So bigger injectors allow more flow, with lower pressure.
Have fun with those 370s.

I figured it was something like that. Do the lower pressures hinder atomization and fuel burn eFficiency? Or am I splitting hairs #ad

Larry, I have to confess that I know some of the physics but less of the practical stuff. Piers and Joe could talk about the downside of big injectors. I would guess that perhaps the emissions get worse. On the other hand getting the fuel in faster is a good thing, it amounts to timing advance, which has it's advantages. Keep us posted.
BTW where is Gig Harbor?

Gig Harbor is just across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge from Tacoma. You know the bridge. We've all seen the old movies of Galloping Gertie falling into the Puget Sound, well I cross Sturdy Gertie twice a day.

Are you an electrical engineer? I looking for some help with a tach drive trigger circuit for a diesel.
