Not sure if this is the place, maybe it need to be in region forums but my 04. 5 was stolen today in Phoenix, only had 1500 miles on it. Vin ends with 16046. It was a White QC 3500 DRW 4x4 6sp. Needless to say I am not happy right now, probably nearing Mexico by now.

Its insured so I am OK that way but man has my year sucked.

Sorry to hear about your ride. I hope at least it was not one you ordered an had to wait awhile. That would be a real Bummer.

Nope, found it on the lot, I guess I can find another one.

Now the waiting game to see if it comes back and in what condition.

What part of Phoenix are you in? Cross streets? Did you have the "chipped key" where the engine only starts if you are using that key?

Stolen in North Scottsdale at Scottsdale and Shea. Truck was seen by a coworker going south in the parking lot at 12:45pm but he was not close enough to see drive, assumed it was me. Did not have a chipped key, did not even know they were available.

I've heard good things about the effectiveness of the Dodge sentry system option. The key is thicker because of the chip in it (in the gray plastic top end), and you can't use an ordinary key cut at Home Depot or somewhere. You can get spare keys from Dodge and have them programmed.

we have the software at work to program the keys as well. as stated, no chip, no start. sucks about your truck. you better hope it is gone for good, then you don't have to deal with problems from it being ragged.

Someone else in Phoenix had a truck stollen a couple of weeks ago. Bummer. I opted for the security system (chipped key) in mine. Sure hope it works.

I have the chiped key and an LO-JACK early warning system that starts calling me if the truck moves without having the matching key bob near when truck starts moving and then also has the tracking ability from the police cars on you report it stolen to them.

Factory security vulnerability...

Even if you order the optional security package which gets you the chipped key/engine immobilizer, an alarm will not go off for broken glass, shock, etc.

A thief could break glass and enter through a window to steal your radio, electronics, valuables, etc. and the factory security system would never know.

I'm wondering about adding a supplmental alarm that would alert on shock, broken glass, etc.

Any suggestions?

You can easily install a switch to kill the starter and hide it somewhere. It would make a good backup system. Just break the wire from the relay to the starter and run a loop in the cab with a switch.

Sorry to hear that your truck got taken. I hate to say it, but sometimes it's better not to get them back.

I agree, at this point I just want the check and find a new one with all the good security stuff.

Generally, no, unless you've declared them and paid for supplemental coverage.

Most items are only covered if you've notified your agent about them and are paying extra. I pay a little extra for my canopy and bedrug. They used to cover stereo's if they were mounted in the dash like the original but I'm not sure how if it still works that way.

I think coverage depends on your insurance company. I have State Farm, and they have always been very good about covering stuff like that. My daughter's Saturn was stollen, and State Farm paid for the CD's that were missing when they got the car back. I think the important thing is to have receipts for the accessories and be organized. If in doubt, check with your agent. If you don't have an agent, consider better insurance.

Bummer!

That is a real bummer indeed. I have had two vehicles stolen over the years so this time I opted for the chipped key on my truck. FYI, my homeowners policy covered the contents of both previous vehicles. It was a pain to go through and get 'proof of owership' for all the contents and some I could not provide the proof. In those cases, the insurance company did give me a reasonable value for what I told them was lost including many tools and CDs. It is a real bad trip to have to take and I agree it may be better if it is never recovered. I had one in each situation and "I" never recovered well with the recovered vehicle. It is truly a feeling of violation. :(

I feel for you.

Ken,

I was with State Farm for 29+ years. The little policy rider brochures that come along with the premium notices were very specific regarding coverage/non-coverage of accessories. I agree - your agent can fight on your behalf, but if State Farm goes by the book, you're exposed unless you've declared these accessories as described on the policy riders and have purchased supplemental coverage.

Off topic, but State Farm's auto/RV insurance rates here in Harris County (Houston), TX finally forced me to go with Good Sam VIP (GMAC) for auto and RV insurance. I hated to, but I can't ignore savings of $700/year.
