I recently rebuilt my transmission and installed a triple disk art carr torque converter, I go out for the test run and notice that the supposed low stall converter was a 2000 stall. So im contemplating putting in a 3000gsk. I don't like the fact that the motor revs out of the power range before the torque converter makes the truck move. Will the gsk help this, and if it does will it give me more hp. I am trying to avoid pulling the transmission just to change out a brand new torque converter.

I don't know ANYTHING about auto trans stuff, but the 3k GSK was a huge improvement for my truck. It sounds like it might be just the thing you need. While it's not a quick job, it's not too difficult and MUCH easier than pulling a trans back out.

:-laf :-laf :-laf Everybody's is faster than mine. It's just faster than it was from the Dodge City plant. (but the front still can't get out of the rear end's way-- No matter how hard the rear end tries to pass :D )

It made a nice difference on a '98 too! With the 5 speed, there is a big spread between 3rd and 4th as far as ratios go. Now when pulling up mountain passes that have me down in 3rd, many times I can get it to accelerate in 4th and climb the pass faster. Not sure it adds HP, just lets you use what you've got to your advantage.

I was able to do back to back test on the dyno adding 3K Gov springs, the net was no power but what it did was give me 300-400 more usable RPM in the band, they are a great improvement on any 12V truck... . period!

It makes a big difference. If you have a 160 pump you may want to get to a 4K GSK. The governor weights are heavier on those and so it applies more force when spinning. With the 180 pumps, you can put a 3K GSK and it will still fuel pretty hard to 3400 rpms. Also 2000 doesn'r sound like too low of a stall to me, usually low stall is around 1750. A low stall will effect spool up negatively also. If you want a good combo, use a triple disc with stock stall and add in the mystery switch. The funnest feeling is hitting overdrive with the mystery switch on.

Im thinking more and more the problems im having is with my valvebody, A shop in Auburn MI. by the name of First Transmission, (owner rob westergard) pulled one over on me a year and a half ago took out my good trans which he said was bad and installed a junk yard special, then installed a transgo shift kit improperly. (this is when all my trans problems started) I think before i do a hole lot I need to find a stock valvebody and go from there. But a 3k gsk is in the near future.

Something that us auto trannie guys discover is that as you uprate your HP, your stall will climb ever higher as well...

Get the stall issue fixed then do the gov. spring if you want more usable range as Jim and others have noted...

As an example, on my 93' the using mandrel exhaust, and stock injectors, a touch of pump tuning my stall was 1900 RPM... . as I put in the 185 injectors I chased my stall up to about 2000 RPM... when I went harder on the pump the stall climbed again and settled around 2050-2075 RPM... .

Now I have alot more RWHP than those days and no more stall issues...

i have a 96 dodge 2500 and i need to do the timing on it and i dont know where to get a timing device. where can i find one to barrow

SBrandon, where are you located? I have the timing tools, and have timed a few trucks. It's not like timing a gas engine where you move the distributor. It's kind of a time consuming task and can be a bit frustrating the first time or two.

If your in my area, let me know I'd be more than happy to help you out on that one. The first time I checked mine it was at 10 or 11 degrees (our page of specs didn't go that low!)
