i'm still deciding between the 4k and 3k gsk as some people say the difference is great, some say say it's nothing special. i floor my truck all the time, but with the 3k gsk, i'd be worried to run the motor into the redline. anyways, has anyone ever broken their valve springs due to having the 3000 gsk?

3kgsk

I have a 3kgsk and my truck will turn 3800rpm, but i never run it past 3400rpm, if you run it higher than 3400rpm you will need to install hd valve springs.

hello

hey tom for the extra 60 dollars throw the valve springs in for the assurance if you plan on beating the truck at all. stick with the 3k kit to no need for the 4k kit for your deal. they are for the extreme.

T. Baker, that's good to know then. i'd just like the extra fueling on the top end, but no, i wont be able to do extreme right now. alright, scott, i'll probably have you send me up a kit in a couple weeks.

btw, what would be the shift point with the 3gsk from the 1st to second? i can hit the 2800 rpm brick wall now.

The stock engine camshaft doesn't allow your engine to make good power beyond about 2600rpm anyhow... so revving it beyond that isn't doing you much good.

Every dyno run I've seen with stock camshafts indicated a sharp falloff in horsepower after that magical RPM range.

Just buy the 3k GSK... . it'll be the best $$ you've EVER spent on your truck. That is until you do your auto transmission, injectors, twins... . etc. :D

good point:D :D :D

don't worry about breaking your valve spring, ... worry about a valve kissing the pistons (floating the valves). Thats why they say to go to the 60 lbs. springs valves will float at or over 3500 rpm.

What he said.

60# Why there not there in the first place? Good security. Float a valve and you'll be:{ plus 60# help my brake :) I will eventually get intake springs to match my 60# exhaust. Just in case I do something stupid. No detriment that I know of puttin them in but 5 & 6 were a pain... New motors havem already.

I am running 3k and they work great. If your going 4k in your stepping up a level and may pay to play.

Off dodgediesel.org Engine Specs

Destructive torsional harmonic resonance occurs at 4100 RPM

Crank and rods fail at 5400 RPM (if you make it through 4100 RPM)

How close do you like to push it?

Kissing? hey, love is wonderful, kiss all you want...

yeah, i'll just stick with the 3k, especially since matt is saying that the stock cam doesn't do well after 2600. i guess it'll just help on the shifts and pulling the hills in 3rd.
