Installed Pier's 3k spring kit yesterday and have a couple of questions.

Do the small, stock, innermost springs get reinstalled? I didn't put them in since the instructions didn't say to do it. May be causing my other questions... ...

The truck seems to bog a little off idle when giving it throttle. Can this be adjusted out?

Idling now at about 900rpm since I adjusted it down (from 1100). Have to give it just a touch of throttle when starting or it turns over a lot more than it used to before the spring install. Is this another adjustment?

I did a search on the board and found some great information but these questions weren't answered specifically.

I did find an easy way to install the springs by accident (stupidity?). I dropped the retaining nut when I was putting in the first spring pack via the side plug. Looked for it for about an hour and was getting desperate so I removed the left front tire and then the plastic inner fender. Found the nut and what else do I see right in front of me? The plug hole and spring pack six inches away and no obstructions! Did the rest of the install from there and it was almost too easy. Just need to stop by the dealer and pick up some retaining clips to reinstall the inner fender since most of them broke when I removed it.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help someone might provide.

Jeff,

After a few mods on mine (also a '98), it would crank over a few times before starting, too. Someone suggested turning the preload screw on the back of the AFC housing in a 1/2 turn +/-. That help considerably. It's a bit of a trick, but you can do it with the housing still on the pump. Need one of those "L" shaped screw drivers as I recall.

I put the 3k kit in a month ago. The first bit of throttle travel did nothing. Turns out, I got the wrong spring seats in the kit. They were flat on the bottom - for the autos. Piers sent me the right ones(recessed on the bottom for the man. trans)and they work like a dream! It starts like usual - instantly. The first thing I noticed with the kit is, when the engine is cold, rpm will come down to an idle smoothly instead of the gov hammering the fuel at idle. RPM is a RCH slower. Craig

JKing's questions and more

It there a way to make it so the RPM that you start the truck with is the one it runs when warmed, on mine it is as if you have to se it low so when it warms up it's not at 900, right now in gear warm it's at 750 and that's were I want it.

Wrong spring seats!

I emailed Piers and he said I did get the wrong spring seats. He's sending me the right ones.

This board is GREAT! Thanks for the answer Craig!!

Piers must have some teenagers packaging this stuff! The stick seats have a recessed bottom. I miked both of them when I had them side by side. There was only about . 005" difference in one spot and about . 010" in another but it made a HUGE difference in the feel of the throttle. Mine is a little more responsive than before the kit. You will absolutely LOVE IT! Changing them the second time is way faster than the first. Craig

Jim,

I am exsperiencing the same thing as you when cold she idles at 500 but when warm she's at 750 which is where I would like it to stay. does anybody have pics of the two different seats ?

Scott

Scott, I can't say about your 4k kit but the bottom of the 3K seat for the sticks has a recess around the center hole - like the stock seats. Look at them and you will see. Even with the wrong seat, mine still idled the same - around 900 but the first 1/2"or so of throttle did nothing. Now it's instant. Craig
