Check this out. I may get this for my 04 sport when it comes in. The dealer I bought the truck from isn't very far from the company HQ, and they do installs there. I'm guessing they know how to do it well since they cut and sell the kits for a living. Expensive but looks like a really great kit, and much more attractive than those gaudy plastic hood shields...

How visible is it? Think it will look bad on the hood of the black truck? Probably better than chips I guess. . That kit is pretty sweet eh?

also what do you guys think about doing this to a brand new truck, like the day I pick it up? Does the paint need some time to breathe? I know years ago I heard you shouldn't wax a new vehicle for a few weeks... dunno if that still applies or would apply to the 3m stuff. Thoughts on that?

Lightman

Check your build date on the inside edge of the drivers door. Your truck may already be several months "old". My in service date is 6-23-03, my build date was February 2003, so my paint had cured for at least 3 to 4 months.

hehe, as in the first post and my sig, I've ordered an 04, so i can't give ya the build date yet. I am certainly dying waiting for it. The reason I asked about the paint drying before applying is that it will be such a new vehicle. .

When I picked mine up, was told that I didnt have to wait to wax/polish like the y2k. Dealer wanted to send over to body shop for a wax (my $$'s tho) but I declined. The cost would have been worth it but needed to get it "on the road". Probably would have done it if not for a few other reasons.

So, from this info, and the paint being a "water" base, I would do it if it doesnt "feel" (scratch easy) soft - try a place that cant be seen to easy such as inside of hood or behind bumper. I attached a lot of "stuff" with the 3m tape and no problems (even getting the chrome badges off. The 3M stuff uses an adhesive for the light covers. The body stuff probably does too.

just another 0. 015$ opinion and we know what its worth.....

NOT responsible for misdirected info and all the rest of that stuff :D

well those kits look like they cover most of the front of the vehicle. Sure would be nice to be totally paint chip free. I wonder how visible the edge of the scotchcal is though on the hood? i'm sure wax builds up on the edge and you must buff it off somehow...

You can't find it on white.

Stick

P. S. My truck was less than a month old when i had it put on. I drive about 8 miles of gravel every day, and still don't have a rock chip. :D

stick, sweeet! Its pretty darn expensive, that full kit is $365 or so, but it covers every inch of paint on the front. I wonder how much they'll charge for the install..... Anyone have an estimate on how long it will take if they are very experienced? I'm thinking of doing my lower body panels too.

The Hood is very difficult, unless you've had any experience I'd have it professionally installed. I had it installed on mine, this is the second rig, you know it's there but it's not a bad look
