Has anyone applied the 3M clear tape-like product to the front or side of their truck.

Does it chip or look bad after a few thousand miles and rocks?

Is it hard to replace if it gets old looking?

vs the Stainless steel side panals what do people think for rock protection. I have the Laramine in White so a little chrome look is fine but I dont want too much. The SS side panals I have seen leave some uncovered area below and then touch the body side molding. I am not too sure that would look as good as running all the way down to the bottom of the truck or at least another inch lower.

3m tape

I have seen this on other vehicles before and it wore well. 40k miles with a lot of gravel and no worse for the wear IF it was installed correctly. One piece wasn't and it got dirt behind it and looked really bad.

3M Paint Protection Waxable UV Film coating (same as used for clear bras)

We use the 3m Paint Protection on Several spots on our Ram, and on several of our products and when properly installed, it does a good job of protecting for small and medium rocks and gravel.

I myself do not care for the clear plastic tape, like jvanwaardhuizen said if it got dirt behind it, and it will, eventually it does look bad. You would sure need to clean that area to be applied good before installation of the tape. The stainless steel look I don't care for either. Really to much chrome look for me. I for one went with the Husky mud/rock guards, they really seem to work well and paintable if that's what you like ( I did not paint mine because the paint will eventually come off also). I did'nt know for sure if I would like the Huskys at first, but noticed a lot of trucks around here with them. They are not that much price wise. Put them on front and rear, they really help deflect the rocks from hitting the side of your truck. All this JMHO! Good luck with your choice any way you decide to go. Oo.
