Desert Diesel Nationals Observations!!!

First of all, I had a GREAT TIME!!!!! We had a teriffic turnout!!! Much better than in previous years. On my way out, I stopped at the gate & asked if they had any information on the numbers of people in attendance. They said that 110 trucks signed up to race & they figured that around 2500 spectator vehicles showed up. The parking lot was FULL. Around noon/1:00 PM, the wait to get to the main gate was 1-1/2 hours to 1-3/4 hours.

In 2002 & 2004, I went back to IN. to Scheid's Diesel Extravaganza in Terra Haute, IN. , Thunder in Muncie, IN. & the Turbo Diesel Nationals in Columbus, IN. Also, shows in CA. & NV. They get incredible turnouts for their events, & deservedly so. This show had a turnout that comes close to what they get. I did not expect that. We have a lot of diesel pick-ups, here, in AZ. & surrounding states. But, not much in the order of organized events. This one changed all of that. A lot of credit goes to those who came from out of state & country. To all of those folks, Thank You for your support & we hope you had a good time in AZ.

BTW, the NHRDA posted on the Cumminsforum.com that they figured that 8000 people showed up. All I know is that the stands were more than full & the track had to open stands on the other side of the track. The vendor's area was full at all times.

One of the last runs on the dyno produced 1132 hp. (as I recall) from a 2nd Gen. Dodge & a 791 hp. from a Duramax owned by Newly.

It sure was nice to see the dark cloud of diesel smoke on Phoenix's western horizon, last Saturday.

Thank You, again, for putting on a first class diesel show in my backyard.
