I am around the shop Friday evening, and in the past Ptoombs, Dpuckett and his wife, and pullitbroke(1stgen.org) usually show up and we go out to dinner Friday night. Saturday morning, whoever is in the area at the time, we get breakfast at the Family Resturant around 8:30 or so. This is a good meeting place for the people that roll in late and get a motel room. After breakfast, we convoy back to my place and open the shop up. There is some stories told, some trucks worked on, some test drives, some modifications, some more stories, etc. Around noon I will fire up the grill for some hamburgers/hotdogs/brats. Pullitbroke and I usually supply the meat, and I try and get the visitors to bring side dishes, chips, desserts, drinks and such. About two weeks before the event, I will start a Roll Call thread and everyone that posts they are coming, what they can bring will get an email from me with my address, and such. I try and give the guys coming the farthest distance the items that travel well. I really don't want Ptoombs to bring some potato salad from NY, and get us all sick! ;) Then there will be more wrenching/story telling, etc until evening. Then we will again have some dinner like lunch. After dark that we'll make a little camp fire, set up the lawn chairs, the kids can do Smores (adults too) and visit around the fire until probably midnight. Sunday morning the visitors camping will roll out.

Someone will bring a variety of Sodas, and we'll have water, lemonade, and tea. If someone wants to drink some beer, its strictly BYOB, and please keep it tame as its a family event. My kids will be there, and hopefully some others. I'm not worried about anyone, but I will post this..... It is a Drug Free event. It will not be tolerated. Never had a problem, everyone that comes are good people, my friends, but I always post this just to make sure.

So to answer your question, yes there will be a couple of Potluck meals. Any desserts, snacks are welcome too. I don't want anyone to leave here hungry. I get that from my Grandma. :)

Mike, as it stands now, barring anything major getting in the way, I will probably be there, late Friday morning. Willing to help with whatever. I will be planning to tent, but if weather turns bad, do you have any recomendations (now or when I get there) as to places to stay. I noticed there are two B & B's and a motel in Lenox (or area). Lenox, Ia. (PJ's Inn), Corning, Ia. (KCC Motel), Mt Ayr, Ia. (Mt Ayr Inn & Charlie-Janes B & B), Shannon City, Ia. (Timberview B & B). What do you know about them? I also saw that about 20 minutes away at Creston, Ia. , there are several places including motels, B&B's and Green Valley State Park. I am what is called "REALLY RETIRED". I am never in a hurry to get anywhere but always "try" to plan ahead. Any Information well be appreciated.

I only live about 11 miles from Creston. Creston is where we will have breakfast Saturday morning. I would recommend the Super 8 or the Supertel Motels in Creston. I would not recommend anything to stay in Lenox, or Corning. Most that have stayed in Creston stayed in the Super 8 and seemed ok. I think the Supertel is higher priced.

Look forward to seeing everyone.

Mike, insn't there a state park nearby ? Used to ice fish down your way, 3 mile or twelve mile maybe ? I pull a 30 ft 5th wheel and don't want to be in your way.

Mike Winter

Mike Winter: If you check my post to Mike, you will see I mentioned the State Park north of Creston, Ia (Mike says 11 miles away). It is called Green valley State Park.

Mike Miller: Thanks for the comeback on motels in Creston. I hope I won't need one, but never hurts to know where the better ones are.

Mike Winter, there are a few in half hour drive or so. As far as being in the way, as long as 15 people don't bring a camper(hasn't happened before) or you aren't staying for a week, there will be room. At my place we have a 70'x150' building with gravel around two sides. We easy park farm equipment and two semis in my barn yard. All of the equipment will be put away or parked elsewhere during the weekend in question.

Green Valley is north of Creston, and Lake Icaria is north of Corning. Those would be your closest.

Mike,
Sorry to have to say this, but it looks like my wife and I won't make it this year.
I did some service on the truck today and when I drained the rear end I found a lot of metal in it. I just don't feel comfortable trying to tow a trailer 1600 mi round trip when I know I have a potential problem.
Maybe we will be able to make it next year. We hope everyone else has a great time. I'm really bummed! I just got a new paint job on the truck and was looking forward to showing it off.
thanks again for the invite.

Mike,

You can scratch both of us brothers. Sorry, we were both looking forward to the meet and spending time with other 1st Gen'ers but it just wasn't to be. Like "Jack" said, maybe next year. I am heading straight for Colorado to get the axle I have with me built and into his truck as soon as possible. If you get a chance, please post some pics of the meet and the trucks that made it.
