Car Dolly?

I have a 2003 QC 3500, HO, 6-sp, 4x4, SRW, longbed. Have a Laredo 27RL 5th-wheel on order. GVWR of the Laredo is approx. 10,000#.

Am looking for the perfect 5th-wheel hitch to buy. I am sort of leaning towards the Pullrite Super 15. 5K hitch with the Super Rails (remove the hitch and only 4 small holes are left in bed of truck). To my untrained eye, both the design and construction of this hitch is top notch.

This will be my first 5th-wheel experience. In your opinion, is this Pullrite hitch a good selection? Good design? Quality construction?

Also, since GVWR of the new trailer is approx. 10,000#, I assume that the 15. 5K hitch is adequate and that the 20. 5K hitch would be overkill.

Thanks for your comments.

Ooh, maybe I can actually beat the rest of the PullRite cheering section (Dean, Casey, & Fireman) to the punch with a big thumbs-up on your choice. :D

In my case, I needed the Super-Glide since my short-bed is even three inches shorter than my '98 short-bed was, and I really like the clean bed when the hitch is out.

I'm frequently a follower of the "too much is just barely enough" philosophy, but I think there are issues of availability of the super rails with the larger hitch (that may only apply to the sliders--I have the 16K Super-Glide). I think among us, though, we have just about every possible configuration of PullRites, so the others can offer more info on the size choice.

Glen,

there are lots of good fifth wheel hitches out there. More is generally better (weight rating), but I have a Draw Tite 16 K and a 14K trailer with no complaints.

Look for one that will pivot side to side as well as fore and aft. It makes connecting and disconnecting much easier. With the old style fore and aft pivot you could get the pin and hitch in a bind and have a heck of a time disconnecting or reconnecting.

With respect to mounting I've found the standard bed rails to work fine. They are low enough to be out of the way when loading most cargo in the bed. Also, if for some reason you need to pull a gooseneck an adapter for a gooseneck is available to fit in the rails.

Make sure the install shop does not drill all the way through the frame as it can compromise frame strength. Drilling through one side and fishing the bolts through the inside of the frame works OK and no worry about collapsing the frame.

The whole frame mounting issue has be discussed in detail in earlier posts. Check them out.

Mark, you are more than welcome to join Pullrite's cheering section, but you have to stand behind the Fireman. :D

Seriously, I don't think anyone makes a better hitch. I make the comparison that Pullrite is to hitches as Cummins is to diesels. Just outstanding in the field. I know guys that have their Pullrites on their third truck, in one case the guy tows a LOT and the hitch still works like new. Couple that with some really great customer service and you have a winner. Glenn, feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Fireman has the hitch that you are considering and I am sure he won't mind you picking his brain. What there is of it!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D Dean has the 20. 5K. Stand up Dean!! Oh you are standing!!!!!!

Glenn,

Excelent choice. The 15. 5 will be more than adequate for your application, and if you ever need to upgrade to 20. 5 all you will need are the support legs and cross member. The super rails support both hitches and all of the Pull Rite super 5s use the same hitch head. The only draw back is price, the super rails cost almost as much as the hiych itself. Don't pay full retail ! Shop around, there considerable savings to be had if you shop around. Although the set up is a little more pricey it is a sound investment. If you do a little searching we about talked this subject to death last month with Ken Lenger (klenger). I think Casey even posted some good pictures of the super rail installation. I would also be willing to bet that Ken will have alot of info and pictures up on his web site before long ;) .

If I can be of further service let me know.
