3rd Gen Air bag recall

Sorry but I've not been following the recall on the air bags thing. I got notice that my wagon is one of the ones recalled although they don't have the parts to fix it as of right now. My main concern is that when time comes and they do have the parts to fix their screw up, will they also do a bunch of Computer upgrades to my OEM Stock wagon? I like the way it runs NOW I don't need or want some half wit telling me that I need this or that for the betterment of mankind on the planet, and installing the flashes without any concern of my wishes.

Or will they just install the fix it parts

Looks like they are changing just the airbag inflator. To be safe tape up your OBD port with "do not flash" and communicate this with your service writer. Hopefully you get parts not made by Takata, but, one of the substitute suppliers that don't use the unstable ammonium nitrate.

This is also an opportunity to get other work done at a discount like the metal HVAC doors installed while they are there.

Yeah, I've gotten the recall notice twice now... "your truck is being recalled, but we can't fix it right now, don't hit anything in the meantime or you'll die, have a wonderful day".

JDoremire, isn't the inflater in the steering wheel? HVAC doors sure aren't.

I like the latest ECM Update that have done to my Truck, I runs now far smoother, a lot of noise has gone, the ticker sound close disappeared.
And there are 2 new fault codes that tell you if an injectors go bad before it burns a hole into a piston or flood the engine with diesel.

Just had my airbag changed in my truck.
It took just over 30 minutes, they unhooked the batteries, un-did the steering column to get to the airbag, replaced the airbag and gave me back the truck.
Outside of the guy refilling his coffee cup, nothing else.

I was sitting in the customer smoking area and can see what they were doing from there.

nobody wants to do a drb flash for free.......only the driver inflator gets changed.nothing gets changed in the column.not even the steering wheel comes off

They just did my '07' today, Airbag recall R25, "performed airbag system clockspring recall". Also recall P80 "trans shift lever interlock spring". Never touched the ECM. I asked up front.

When a stealership ripped me off for work performed that they didn't do, while it was in the shop they did some kind of flash they left a sticker on the crossmount over the radiator. So I know they don't like asking, that was in Commifornia so there may be more Civilized people here to do it. I did get my money back from the stealership but it took a little bit of Lawyer persuasion to do it. Thank Goodness for Pre Paid Legal, Ive been a so called AH that uses their services on regularity in Commiefornia where people have to be persuaded to be decent

I got the airbag recall notice also but the notice stated: "WAIT UNTILL FUTHER NOTICES ARVIES" before taking action.

So I will wait and wait with a ticking time bomb in the steering wheel!

It's my understanding that both airbags are recalled passenger side and driver's side. The passenger side is what I assume requires the dash to be pulled and allows discounted other work to be done. But you know how assumptions are...

I called them for my '06 and they confirmed I was involved in the recall. When they had a air bag, I was set with an appointment. So call them, they really don't need the paperwork. Mine came the day of the appointment and I found it while leaving the driveway. The told me it was not problem, they could do it with or without the paperwork.

Don't wait, call.

Does this issue cause the airbag light on the dashboard to light up? I just changed my steering box about 1000 miles ago and suddenly my light is going on and off, along with a chime. Got to thinking maybe I goofed on the steering lining up but it didn't do it until today. I don't recall getting a notice but my truck is an 06 so I'm guessing it may be amongst those recalled.

No, no lights on the airbag. There are multiple recalls depending on year and state, both for driver and passenger side air bags. The inflator can rupture and send shrapnel into occupants. This is only for certain VINS and areas as high humidity is the driver for the problems. It is all done by VIN and state to see what you would get.

Seems like there are 2 models of inflators, took my 2006 in yesterday, 20 minutes later the service advisor came out and said that they did not have the 2nd type of part, expect 1-2 weeks to get this one in. Now in wait mode again....

I have a 2006 Dodge Diesel 3/4 ton short bed 4 door automatic with a Jake Brake. This is the only place I have heard anything about this. I also have a 95 Dodge Diesel One Ton Automatic is it on the list also? The Service Department in my area is a rip-off I stay away from them if possible.

If you are in the effected states\areas then your 2006 is part of it. The 95 uses completely different systems and is way out of warranty concerns.

I'm in Michigan and though I have not received a recall notice in the mail when the vin is put in the FCA recall lookup my truck comes up for the drivers airbag.
