68 REF transmission question.

Intermittent Whistle for over 1 Year Please Help

:mad::{#@$%!

Okay - I've got 15,000 miles on my 2nd stock clutch and I get the sneaking feeling that it's heading the same way as the first one.

If my feelings are right - I don't have warranty - I'm not going stock again. Any recommendation on solid aftermarket units?

I have a Smarty but max out at 5. Not pulling heavy often, but occasionally load her up.

Thanks Guys???Oo.

Are you sliping the clutch or are you riding it. I pull 22. 900+ and have not had any clutch trouble. My truck is an 03.

The '03 has a conventional flywheel and clutch with NV-5600 transmission. The OP and all '06 and later trucks have the dual mass flywheel assembly.

Harrison: I have no personal experience with them but lots of members with late model dual mass flywheels are converting to the conventional flywheel and clutch assembly from South Bend Clutch. You might try calling and talking to Peter @ SBC.

Nope Not Riding it!!

I had 250,000 miles on my '93 before I changed out the throw out bearing. This clutch was wonky the day I drove off the lot! I should have gone aftermarket when the dealer changed it out last winter...

Thanks Harvey... I'll look him up!!

the south bend comes with a solid flywheel with a real pilot bearing pressure plate a disk that does not slip and new hydraulics. while the dmf is out of the truck play with it to see how mickey mouse it is. the dmf did reduce noise that the south bend does not so do not let this worry you. it is normal

There is a solid flywheel replacement that is a direct bolt up for your truck. . There was a very good article in the TDR about the Perfection Clutch unit... We stock it and have sold it... Go back to one of your old issues and take a look at the article...
