My only questions is this. The VP44 is an electromechanical pump which controls the timing and injection events.

If the CP3 pump is simply a pressure pump to a common rail... and sophisticated electronics controls the timing and injection event AT the injector... how are you going to get this to happen since you don't have the computer nor the injectors to fit an ISB5. 9?

Just my question. My feeling is the injectors won't fit, the rail wont fit, etc. Maybe the pump might fit... but it would be useless to make the engine run.

So what would a guy need? The injectors, cross over tubes, fuel lines, computer and wiring? Probably be cheaper to just swap in a complete 3rd gen motor then deal with wiring and computer. Painless has a conversion harness to swap em in to whatever so why could'nt a guy build a common rail 2nd gen?

Basically a common rail 2nd gen WOULD BE a 3rd gen engine. As far as I know the bottom ends are similar if not the same. I know there is a thread going on about a 3rd gen head on a 2nd gen. Might find more info there.

I have also thought about getting rid of the vp44. I did not want to loose my adjustable power control, like you do with a p-pump. Dont get me wrong I loved my '95 Dodge.

My concern would be to get the trucks electrical to blend in flawlessly with the 2nd Gen electrical ie gauges, speedo, fuel pump, cruise... ...

I wonder if we remove the ecm and use the ecm off the 3rd gen. Install a 3rd gen map, iat, cam sensor, oil sensor, injectors, common rail ect.

This would be a great improvement. Sam.

The painless wiring harness is $$$$$! I have heard that it is very similar to the factory harness from a third gen. There is actually a guy here in eastern NE that put an 04 motor in his excursion and he used a factory harness. He is actually putting a p-pump on his 24v currently.
I think that the cp3 system is a better system if you are going for more than 600hp. It is definately do able.
