3rd Gen Electrical Systems

Does anyone know if the electrical system on the 03-05 3rd Gen trucks is a ground switched system? Like the 01. 5-02 2nd Gen trucks.



I have an 02 2500 with the Sport package and I was looking to upgrade to HID head lights. I have the 9007 same as 03-05 trucks & for some the reason the 2nd Gen Sport models throw the tech depts. for a loop

My interpretation of the wiring diagram is that this is not a switched ground setup. The positive side is switched and the ground is fixed.

If the 3rd Gen is not ground switched, they say their 9007 HID conversion harness isn't compatible. The 2nd Gens are ground switched & I have the Sport package with 9007 and 9004 bulbs.



If the 3rd Gen is ground switched, then I can use their harness with the 9007 bulbs on my truck.

A few inexpensive parts and you should be able to convert to the HID. Get two relays and hook the coil into the low beam circuit and 15 amp fused battery through the contacts. You will need to purchase or build a harness. You may also have to swap pins A and B in the outboard light socket for high beam operation, depending on how the high beam is handled in the HID system.
