Does anyone have a lot of experience removing and replacing engines on 3rd gens? What is the appropriate procedure for doing this particularly how are you supposed ot handle the brace directly in front ot the engine between the IC and the radiator. I have my own way of doing it which is unnoticable when done. I just bought an 05 that had the motor replaced at the dealer. Truck has 20k on it. The build date on the truck is 6/05 and the engine build date is 11/05. The dealer did a real hack job on the brace by slicing it in two with a torch and dirt dobber welding it back together. The truck took a slight hit on the front end, and this piece broke in two exactly where it was welded. I don't think the radiator would've been damaged had thins been done properly.

Any thoughts?

Well... I can say I havent pulled a whole engine.

But. . I have pulled the top and front end off of a 3rd gen.

If I was going all the way then I would jack up or block up the transmission then unbolt it from the engine. Then I would unbolt the engine mounts and go for it!!

I HAVE PULLED THE ENGINE OUT AND HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY THROUGH IT, I PULLED THE CYLINDER HEAD FIRST, THEN THE BOTTOM END, THE BRACE I PULLED OUT WITH A DIE GRINDER, IT WAS PRETTY EASY, I WILL BE DROPPING THE ENG BACK IN THIS NEXT WEEK
