Competition Xtreme Diesel Drags in Michigan!

Competition final drive ratio

I have a 600 six speed with the electronic transfer case and was wondering for drag racing with a 4x4 launch for 2nd and 3rd gears then flipping the switch back into 2wd, if between shifts if it can dissengage 4wd completely without hurting anything? Thanks in advance guys.

IMO, you're a fool to launch in four wheel drive. You're just asking to break parts, and I don't think you'll gain enough over two wheel drive to make it worth while.

I doubt the electronically controlled t-case will disengage with your foot on the floor... it probably won't engage with your foot on the floor either...

I use to drag my 02 HO 6 speed and launch in 4X4 in 2nd gear about 2100rpm. It took off like a bat out of hel. Best 60 foot was a 1. 97. I was stock with an EZ. I tried to launch in 2wd and it sucked balls, lots of wheel spin. I wasnt too worried about it because i was still under warrentee

I don't think you will break parts if you are reasonable with your launch. I launched in 6wd (dually) in Muncie. If you read other posts from the Pros here, unless they are 2wd... they all launch in 4. I don't know if the T-case will release under stress or not... . I know mine won't.

hey yo hoot,

What Im wanting to know is with the electronic shift 4x4 on the larimies if I flip the switch and dissengage the clutch to shift will the t-case and front end dissengage from true 4x4? I thought that the D-max guys even with the allison and push button 4x4 could get them to dissengage between transmission shifts?

As has been stated almost all the 4wd that go to the Drags launch in 4wheel. The best time to kick it out of 4 is right after the 1/2 shift.

Mattymac, I know with the 2nd gens that the axles won't disengage while under full throttle. But being a manual T-case at least the t-case is disengaged. But with the electronic t-case I would be almost positive that there is a protective device that keeps the axle *and* t-case from disengaging while over xx percent of throttle.

Why concern yourself with shifting out of 4X4. Everybody around here always runs the full 1/4 in 4X4. I know I did. And for the statement "nothing to gain over 2 wheel drive". Have you ever been on the strip? I doubt it.

. . Preston. .

There is no front axle disconnect on a 3rd gen truck, front driveshaft is allways spinning, I would leave it in till the end with the electronic transfer case, I am pretty sure it takes longer to disengage than it would have during a quick upshift.

IMO You're just a fool, period.

FWIW - I haven't raced at the track, but I've raced plenty of PSD's on the street launching in 4wd and shifting (I have a lever, however) into 2wd after launching.

OK maybe I'm a bit ornry... . but the man asked a question... . Like it or not... Foolish or not. Answer the question. This is a great board, with tons of information. If you don't know how guys are racing (in this case Drag racing in 4x4) Don't reply. Let the guys that have a LEAST seen the track with their truck do the talking. I understand that some guys don't think our trucks are for racing. Some don't think they are for sled pulling. That's great. Stay in the rest of the forums. This is the COMPETITION forum.

Sorry for my Venting... .

Opinions are great... . as long as you have something to back it up.

I agree. The facts are: put in 4wd and leave it 4wd... if you have enough time b/t gear shifts to even think about shifting out of 4wd, you need more power. If you are scared about breaking parts, its better off to just leave it stock.
