ok its getting cold driving back and forth to work .....

the defrost and the floor vents stopped working on my dads 03 it does not matter what setting you have got the vents on they only blow out in the passenger compartment

i am assuming it is a vac line somewhere, they still use vac right?

anyone got a place to start looking

It sounds like you have two problems.

With the tempature control turned to the warm/hot section you should be able to get warm/hot air out the vents/floor/defrost. I believe on the third generations the temp door breaks very easily leaving with just cold or just hot air. There are a lot of threads on how to get to the temp door. Also the temp door shoud be operated by a electric actuator you mite have loose connection or burned actuator.

Second problem, in the 2nd generations the defrost or defrost/floor (I don't remember which one) is the default mode if vaccuum leak occurs. On 3rd generations they mite of changed this.

So I would check the control switch on 2nd generations, the knob (if they are still using a knob that turns to make a selcection) would break. You would have to take the knob off to make sure it is not broken and is just spinning assuming the default mode is still defrost. If vents are now default check that control switch is operating correctly by looking at back of it. Look for vacuum leaks where the vacuum line could rub against things.

On My Mule (96) I had a kink in the line under the dash, my system went into default mode (defrost only). It was fixed under warranty.

Sounds like your blend door/s are broken do a search on blend doors. This is an 8 hour job to fix so take your time. Dealer wants a little over $800 do fix it parts are only like 50 bucks, so do it yourself. . Oo.

i actually did a bunch of searching and it actually sounds like it the one of the tsb's for early 03 truck (it is) the door that controls where the heat actually goes brakes ... . called the dealer and its going in tomorrow to have it fixed if its not that i will probably do it myself, but i sure dont want to do that
