ok i already searched

the forum for this. I couldn't find the answer. so, i thought the new multi layer steel head gasket from a 3rd gen will fit on a 12v block?

does it? thanks

deo

if my chance it does fit or could be made to fit, the head and block have to be 100% flat or they wont work. i had thought about that route. O ring or fire ring is the way to go with the 12v motor

i've heard that before ... its always a good idea to have flat surfaces ... but i've used mls headgaskets on other engines that probably were not 100% flat... so i think it should be fine... .

thanks

Deo

Yeah but were they diesels? I've also read about using the 3rd Gen MLS, the surfaces have to be flat and smooth, but I don't recall too many people actually trying them on 12v and 24v trucks.

99% of my cars are diesels, so yes they were. vw diesels, vw tdis, a few 1. 8L and 2. 0L gasser engines also . . these all have aluminum heads and were home built ie garage rebuilts did not have the head cut or deck machined... teh vw diesel shave compression of 23 to 1 for the idid and 18 to 1 for the tdis. . the gassers wer between 8. 5 and 10. 75 to 1... . they held and are holding fine...

Thanks

Here are my thoughts.

If you are thinking of going to the MLS to hold high boost pressures I think you are better off with an O-Ring vs. trying the MLS which may or may not hold 60-70psi of boost on a non-virgin surface. If your HG needs replacement anyway you may want to try the MLS vs a standard HG and see how it goes.

On the other hand if it were me and my HG needed repalcement I would opt for a . 10 over HG vs. the MLS (last I knew MLS was only available in standard thickness.

basically i am just removing a engine from my truck. . ( the block froze and cracked) and swapping a supposedly good engine i have as a extra in to the truck. i don't have the time or $ to do orings or firerings now . . i just want to be able to plow my driveway in the winter. . ha. . this other engine has the head bolted on it . . i was thinking of removeing it to check the condition of it etc... at this time i was going to do a headgasket. . i have amarine 020 head gasket in my truck now and i head the mls will fit. . figured it would be a slight upgrade and be a better headgasket if i was just changing em anyway... ... i heard Piers uses the mls on many trucks. . and they hold pretty well to about 60psi... any how thats where i am. . after i finish my rabbit pickup. . should be with in a week or so i will start the swap in the truck. . i have p pump parta dn aa marine block to use also with ne wpistons etc but i am saving that scuz i definately don't have the $ to build that up yet... saving that for the drag truck anyhow...

Thanks

Deo

Personally given what you've said I would still opt for the . 010 or . 020 HG vs. the MLS. JMHO. Best of luck getting the truck back on the road.
