I'm wondering if anyone has attempted to install the new 3rd gen 5 disc factory radio into a 2nd gen truck. I currently have the top of the line radio in my '02 (CD/Cass/AM/FM w/ steering wheel controls) but I want to know if I can use a 5 disc from the 3rd gen trucks and have it work with my steering wheel controls. Thanks in advance for any info.

Did you end up doing this, or has anyone? I would like to do the same thing in my 2002, but I don't care if I have the steering wheel controls, I just wonder if the round style deck out of the 3rd gen trucks would fit, and look good in the square hole that our 2nd gen dashes have.

I want the 3rd gen deck because the disc changer is nice, but more so, because the great CD players that come from the factory don't play burned cd's, I'm stuck using an aftermarket deck for now, which I don't really care for.

I too am interester in this, I would like to have a changer but i dont like the idea of putting one under the seat. As far as not playing burned cds, 80% of my cds are burned and i havent found one that my cd player wont play. Somebody has got to know whether or not a 3rd gen radio will work in a 02

It all depends on what format the songs are in when you burn the CD. If you keep the songs in a digital . MP3 format, standard radios won't play them. But if you use some software to convert MP3/WMA files to wave files, they'll play just fine.

Also burn them at "disc at once" instead of "track at once", this will help on picky CD players. Make sure the disc is closed to be read as a standard audio CD.

Not sure on the installation of 3rd gen to 2nd, sorry.

i dont know either, but do any of u have a buddy with a newer truck that trusts u, the radio comes out in about 5 min on a 2 gen u could try to see if they will interchange.
