pac brake installed on 05 auto

Need to lower receiver hitch

Well.....

We are pulling around 17,500 to 17,800 depending on fuel now (Travel Supreme). Used to be over 18,600 with the Royals International.

I have seen a few 3rd gens hauling some serious cars on gooseneck rigs.

I saw one of those quadzillion tired Mountain Aire's down here being towed by a 3rd gen. Not sure what that thing weighs. But it cant be more than ours. He was cruising along at 60 MPH. We cruise at 65 to 70 when there is no traffic.

Plenty of 3rd gens. pulling newer Royals, Travels, Tetons and big gooseneck rigs. I'd say most of them are over 18,000 lbs. and over 25,500 to 27,000 GCW.

Pics in the readers rigs gallery.

i saw a 3rd gen 4 door pulling a goose neck with a full size (was as big as they come i beleave) conex container mounted to it a couple weeks ago, looked like a not so mini semi, no guess as to weight but probably enough :D

I have an 04 3500 dually..... it now has 210K miles and pulls a trailer that weighs 18-22 K all the time... . it has power disc brakes... . the truck does really well on the hills with an exhaust brake... . it has air bags and air horns as well..... This truck has not seen a full tank of fuel without the trailer... ... ...

The engine is stock... I have issues in heavy traffic when someone pulls in the open space that I have set aside for extra stopping distance...

Hope this answers your questions... . BTW I'm sitting in a motel..... in Phoenix... . just came from San Diego today... . down those 6% grades with no problem and the exhaust brake.....

We are full-timers in a Travel Supreme. Last time I had it on the scales it was 16,800. Rollin down the road, we are 25,500 combined weight. I have a couple pics in my gallery here.

3rd gen RV

GCW for our "03" is 21,000#, last scale was 20,080, should be less about 250# now, droped the generator.

I've been looking at the Gear Box 30' toy hauler that has a GVWR of 17. 500 lbs. I looked at specs on the Dodge web site and I see that my truck has a maximum towing capacity of 15850. I know a lot of guys haul heavier than that, but is it safe with stock suspension, I haven't put air bags on yet and will definately install an E brake.

Explain your jester?
I was just picking on ya. The heaviest combined weight I've ever pulled for a long distance was 25,000lbs. The heaviest trailer I ever pulled (2 wheat wagons hooked together) was 36,000 lbs. I'm a farmer, so I usually don't have to go very far, and the roads are not crowded... . I don't go 70mph either. :) So I guess my comparison is kinda unfair... I try to stay under 15,000 lbs combined when actually going somwhere.

Sorry if I offended you. I wrote that the other day when I was in a bad mood, and half asleep.

RV weights of 18k plus???

Royals Internationals can be in excess of 19,000 lbs. Especially the late 90's and early 2000 models... .

Pretty sure there are some of the bigger Tetons that are over that too.

Our Travel Supreme is right at 17,000 lbs. "Just the RV". According the the last CAT slip. Sometimes it is a little over that.

The Royals we pulled was over 18,000 no matter what we did. "Just the RV".

Right now 24,500 gross is the norm.

I Grossed 25,120 lbs today

Today, I pulled a trailer that put me at 25,120.

The weights were : 4740 front axle, 4180, drive axle, 16200 trailer axles. CAT scale tix to verify is available.

I have now experienced the problem with SPS66 surging. It did it one time while accelerating from about 50 in 6th gear. It was a fairly steep hill. Boost wouldn't get over 10 psi, and rpms were at about 1450-1500.

I bought the Prodigy brake controller from Colrain RV for $95. 00. They were very pleasant to deal with. The Prodigy works great.

Not the heaviest load, but the longest haul. The heaviest was about 40,000lb load - a 1998 Mack tractor and trailer.

Heck, the Day Dreamer is not too bad weight wise, my Dad has one and he is a full-timer like me. We cary just about everything, tools, air compressors, winter and summer clothes. Extra coolers, propane bottles... . The 2003 dually handles it well. Now my 43' 8" KZ 41KG is one heavy beast, with my heavy option list I'm about 15,100 empty. Add the motorcycle, 100 gallons of water, three 30# propane bottles, lots of tools, grills, chairs, clothes... . I don't want to weigh it. :)

I tow the big trailer with a mild 1995 3500, it can be done. The 03 does not pull better than my 95 with a #6 plate, I did need air bags on the 95 though. I bet the 03 auto trans will last longer though. The 12 valve did better in the western NC mountains than I thought it would.
