I'm considering trading to an '04 and am thinking about a SWB QC. Trying to figure out if if will work for pulling my 5er.

Could someone measure the distance from the back of the cab to center of the rear axle and provide the distance?

I could also use the distance from the ground to the top of the box at the highest point.

Thanks

I found a 1500 SWB and measured it. I came up with 37. 5". Looks too tight for a 5er to me, even with a slider hitch.

I've seen lots of 5ers being pulled by short beds of all brands. The Ferds are even shorter beds than our Rams and see lots them. The Pullrite Superglide seems to be the hitch of choice for a 5er SB combo. It's pricey but is automatic. It's the way I'll be going if my new truck ever gets here!!!

I had the same concern when I went from my '95 LB to my '03 SB. After much debate and measuring. I went with the Pullrite Superglide. It was expensive, but figured any repairs to the cab/trailer, if they ever hit, would exceed the cost of the hitch. It works great! Only two disadvantages for me: 1). It's VERY heavy to remove/reinstall, and 2). It's a little messy since you have to keep the tubes greased. Also, you have to be pretty much lined up to hitch/unhitch. Even though I see others do it, I wouldn't pull a 5er without some sort of slider.
