Is the turning radius (or diameter) a published number for the 3rd gen trucks. I'd like to know the spec for mine (3500 4WD long wheel base - see sig). If I do a 180° in a parking lot, I pace off about 45 feet for the turning diameter.

Thinking of trading the 5th wheel and truck for a ~34' Winnebago motor home built on the Ford F53 228" wheel base chassis. The published turning diameter for the MH is ~61'. I'm trying to get an idea of who well the MH will maneuver compared to my truck and 5er.

Hey Klenger!

See if this link will work for you... http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/2004/dr/drquad/drquad350016054x4.pdf

From this chart, on the bottom left, it indicates a turning radius of 50. 6' for a 2004 3500 QC SRW 4x4 Long bed.

If you've got the time to look around, there is a wealth of information on the Dodge Body Builder's site.

However, I hate to provide any information that could persuade you toward selling your dodge... TDR wouldn't be the same without your posts!

I actually have the body builder files on my computer and checked there first, but didn't see the turning diameter number hidden there. Thanks.

Ken,

Before you do make that decision please make an appointment with your regular physician and have him perform a complete physical exam including a blood chemistry panel. You could possibly have a developing brain tumor pressing against the part of your brain that provides higher reasoning or possibly some imbalance in your blood chemistry causing minor mental impairment.

I took the toilet out of my Hitchhiker today and took it to an old friend who has been an RV tech for 35+ years and is the service manager of a large dealership. The toilet leaked last week when I had the trailer set up in a local park while our home kitchen and cabinets were being refinished. The toilet probably needs a new flush valve but is still under warranty. While I was talking with him he got a phone call, talked awhile, then hung up and began talking about motorhomes. He said that whenever someone asks him his opinion about trading a truck and trailer combo for a motorhome he always replies this way: "you know how many problems and repairs you've had to make on your truck and trailer?" "Well, add the two together and multiply them by 20. " "That's how you estimate repair expenses on a motorhome. " He volunteered that info. I sure didn't ask. Personally, I wouldn't take a free motorhome.

I'm just giving you a hard time, of course. It's none of my business.

Ken, I agree with Harvey. You'll never be happy with a MH, especially one with a Furd gasser. I know a lot of good things are said about the V10 Furd, but it's still a gasser and like many of us you now have diesel in your blood. I just don't believe you can go without your Dodge/Cummins.

I can see it now, within two years, you'll be jerking that gasser out of the MH and installing a Cummins. In two more years you'll be buying a 2012 Dodge 4500 with a 6. 7 Cummins and a 32' Hitchhiker 5er.
