A little FYI... .
ICA Alert: Dodge Ram bug deflectors
CHICAGO — The International Carwash Association (ICA) has issued an alert for the 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup, according to an ICA news release.
The alert is for an optional Chrysler bug deflector mounted on the leading edge of the hood. Special fasteners that attach the Chrysler bug deflector to the hood can become loose or missing causing the bug deflector to be blown off by high velocity dryers at carwashes.
Carwash operators should be aware that the deflectors in question are chrome or body colored, not "smoke" colored — these are not a Chrysler product, stated the release.
DaimlerChrysler has changed the special fasteners, at the assembly plant effective Jan. 1, 2004, to the new fasteners which will provide a more positive attachment of the bug deflector to the hood.
It is recommended that carwash owners inspect Dodge Ram Vehicles with bug deflectors built prior to this year. There are four fasteners under the edge of the hood, and if any are loose, it is advised to push them securely into place.
However, if any fasteners are missing, DaimlerChrysler suggests that operators have their customers return to their dealership for repair without washing, said the release.
Even if you don't use an automatic car wash it might be a good idea to get some of the updated fasteners since the CTD is so fast out on the road.
