I had an analysis done on my oil today, a day after I had it changed at an oil change place that specializes in big trucks, as well as light duty and cars. After I got to work today, I pulled the dipstick and it was about 1-1. 5 inches overfull. I suspected an overfill, after the first filter developed a leak and they replaced it. When I took it in, they suspected fuel in oil and offered to do an analysis, which showed 4. 1%. I would think that with that much over fill, it would have showed a lot more fuel than 4. 1%. I've got new oil and filter in now and will monitor the level closely. Any suggestions?

4. 1% of 12 quarts is about 1/2 quart. If they didn't drain it long enough they could have easily left an extra quart in. The extra oil (and/or fuel) should have nothing to do with a filter leaking. The filter doesn't care if it has 5 or 50 quarts in the pan.

What I would be concerned with is 4. 1% in one day. You have fuel entering the crankcase from somewhere. Most likely cause is cracked injector body.

4. 1% of fuel is way too much! I agree with sag2. You must have a cracked injector to allow that much fuel to get in the crankcase.

I took it in to the dealer today for a check-up and it came back no problems. The tech said to drive it and keep an eye on the oil pressure and fuel consumption and oil level and bring it in if it changes. She took the valve cover off, hooked up the scan tool, started it up and looked at the readout and watched the injectors. The oil level was just above the full level, after driving it about 180 miles since the oil re-change. I forgot to ask her about running injector cleaner, as I have been thru 2 bottles of Lucas injector cleaner. So, my panic seems to be for naught, as of now. I was lucky to be able to get it in and checked out, driving up on a Monday morning without an appointment.

I've been monitoring my oil level and can't detect an increase. The last fillup resulted in fuel economy within 1/2 mpg of the previous 4 or 5 fillups. If anything changes drastically, I'll either take it in to the dealer again, or have another oil sample run. I have never experienced any rough idling, or any other abnormalities in the way my engine performs, so maybe I don't have a bad injector.
