my 2500 has a 4. 10 axle ratio, I tow about 20% of the time, and hardly ever over 5000#, what to go to 3. 54 gears just for the fuel economy, is this the smart thing to do? if it is,is there anyone that wants to swap or a good junkyard? My truck has 88000 2wd

Even 2WD where you replace only one ring and pinion can be expensive. The Dana 80 changes carrier between those ratios, the Dana 70 changes between 4. 10 and 4. 56.

you might try tall tires first. 255-85-16 will fit; bigger will require tying back the trailing edges of the front inner fenders.

thanks for the advise, now the hard part is finding someone that would swap, I called All Truck in SLC, UT, they wanted $1300 for the 3. 54 axle and would only give me $400 on the trade. I think if their axles worth that, than mine isnt to far behind. I can see them making a little money on it, but $900, come on. Maybe we are in the wrong buisness? If anyone knows of anyone interested in swaping give me a holler. NE Nevada thankls
