4.10's to 373's change over

I've been thinking about changing over to 3. 73's for better fuel economy, and less engine rev's.

Do you guys think that it would be a good Idea? I Don't tow heavy all the time, maybe about 10 percent of the time the other 90 percent is HWY and city driving back and forth too work.

Do you guys think that it would be worth it? I Don't tow heavy all the time, maybe about 10 percent of the time the other 90 percent is HWY and city driving back and forth too work.

I seen that I can get 373's for front and rear around 1000$ from Randys Ring and Pinion, Is it worth the hassel? I really Don't care for the 410's Unless I planned in the future on putting 38's and a lift or using it as a tow vehicle too tow all the time.

I'm ready for sugestions Thanks :)

The real cost in changing gears is the labor. It is very important that they are set up correctly. It is also not a job for your average shade tree mechanic. It requires some special tools, knowledge, and tools to do it correctly.

Labor to change out front and rear will be close to a grand. You can buy a lot of diesel for 2K. My advice? I see you have a 4x4. next time you buy tires up the size a little. You can fit some pretty good sizes on these trucks with out lifts. find a truck that you like the looks of and get that size. There are tons of trucks with bigger tires, so you can see the difference before you buy! Then, have the dealer adjust your speedo, yes they can do it and yes it is easy. Did it on mine. Next thing, drive slower. I cruise between 65 and 70 max. My fuel milage shows it. I was driving over 800 miles a week. When you drive that much there is no need to get into a hurry. Driving 80+ i averaged about 16mpg, and could only drive 2 days on a tank. @65 i get around 19. 5-20 and drive almost 4 days on a tank. Just my thoughts . . .

You're gonna improve MPG about . 25-. 50 MPG... maybe... . and drop about 250-300 rpm on the highway. Changing rear ends is a lot of work for a little gain IMO.

Plus you'd have to change the front end too. You could get 315 tires instead. They look better too but they do rub just a little full lock either way. Ride is much softer and the change is less "permanent" than the other more expensive options.

I'd love to trade you gear sets. I have 3. 73's and wish I had 4. 10's. With my 37inch tires, I'm geared to tall. Maybe I'll drive to Florida, we'll go to a dealership and let them set our trucks side by side and swap gears
